First mile was 4:16.
It may have been, I was looking at the first mile split. 1.33 k split

Are those 1.33 splits accurate? Seems way off. Rock N Roll split (always off) or real split?

No one should ever run Rock and Roll events unless you like getting inaccurate splits and paying a shitload of money for the privilege.

Next thing, the IAAF will invent Seasonal WRs. All prior records will be erased from history. The first person who runs a "qualifying" event at the start of the new season will be the WR holder. Every single year, new WRs will be set in every single event, guaranteed.
I wonder if there are a bunch of pro contracts that did not take this situation into account when defining bonuses. Does King Ches get the same amount for tying this record as he would if he ran 12:37 on the track?
(I am not an insider, and have no idea how pro contracts are written. I'm genuinely curious. Hope it's true.)

Thinking about it, that makes no sense, because obviously they'd define different bonuses for road WRs. But the question still applies in a slightly modified form: does he get the same amount as if he'd tied Kipketer's actual world record?

The 1.33mi split was off. Said I was 5:08/mi when I was probably 5:20/mi. The 2.56mi split looks accurate though.
Carlsbad 5000 is not a fast course. I'm amazed world records have been set here. Two 180 degree turns and you're running uphill after both of them. It's a net elevation of zero, but it's almost never flat.

Agreed-didn’t seem like a super fast course to me yesterday and it looked that way across the board from the results. I don’t know what it was

Rock N Roll no longer owns the Carlsbad 5000. In December they sold it to Meb and a couple of San Diego people. Because of the late date of the sale, they didn't have much time to recruit their elite fields. This year was noticeably better run than Rock N Roll's last effort in 2018. Meb was just past the finish line for the people's races, and I think he shook hands, thanked and posed for pictures with 90% of the finishers. I expect it to get even better with a full year of Meb's ownership and locals who really care about a quality 5K race.
How far off was the female winner vs new IAAF WR? She soloed that whole thing after 1k
