That’s cool. I’m still going to try. Even if I fall short and run 4:07 when it’s all said and done, so be it. 49 and 1:51 though? That’s what’s up. You got some serious wheels!

yea go for it man, I think your ship has sailed but nothing wrong with trying and seeing how close you get...
you sound super fast given your mileage load
try your hardest and let us know in 5 years
A lot of you are so off-base it's amazing.
I ran a 4:24 1600 in high school as a senior. Not 16 weeks later, in college, during a morning run, in trainers, stopping at our track, I ran a 4:07. I was 18.

I ran a 4:06 mile and 1:51 800m, and sub 4:00 was not possible for me. I could split low 49 in the 400m and have run 1:12 in the HM.
4:06 to SUB 4:00 is a monumental leap.
you have ZERO chance.
sorry, that's the most optimistic diagnosis I can muster for you.

well, you obviously under-performed in H.S. if that's true.
But we all know it isn't, so you're an idiot.
My bet would be against OP ever running under 4:10, and absolutely no way he gets under 4. If he had the propensity to work hard enough to get that fast he would have done so before this point in his life.
4:07 mile guy is a great tall tale, but i’ll Bite...were you on the team in college? Training on your own? Please respond

Yes, I was on the team. I ran three years in college until injuries put me too far behind. I never ran another 1600/mile that fast, but I never tried.
Yes, I under-performed in high school, and did not recognize the runner I could have been when I had the chance.
I have PRs better than nearly anyone I ever see posting here, and I ran FAR less mileage/workouts than anyone.

This is exactly why I’m trying it. I’m done always wondering “what if” and “if I took it seriously when I was 19-2x”. I’ve spent a lot of years experimenting and I finally found what works best for me training wise.
I’m aware that it’s not going to be easy and won’t happen overnight. I have small goals laid out along the way to avoid being overwhelmed. The worst I get out of it is a bunch of PRs over the next few years lol
Go for it, Chef!
I'll be following your progress and cheering you on.
Why is your race relevant?
Anyhow... good luck!
Like most LRC threads, this is the last we will hear about it.
No one ever comes back and posts, hey guess what I broke 4 minutes (or some other unrealistic goal they previously posted about).

Normally you’d be right, but I plan on sticking around for a while. I may not reach this batsh!t goal, but the journey will be fun :-)
If you are not trolling here I say you have a chance …...Try with some magic coaching and just test how far you can reach.
If your natural sprint speed indicates a faster 400 than 53 I will let it loose.. )) And then it`s easy to get you sub 4 . Remember Carlos Lopez ran 3:41 at 1500m and was not very fast over 400m . So it`s possible with the right coach.

To run a 4 min mile is much easier than many coaches and runners think it is )))) It`s "only" required 20 x 400m at 66 sec ( around a min rest) and
LT-intervals at around 4: 50 mile pace. :)
Is it possible of course. But is it going to happen, almost certainly not. At 30 to many of the prime years burned for someone who would need to improve by 20 seconds. The difference between a 4:20 and sub 4 guy are enormous. Any decent guy can run 4:20, no indication of sub 4 talent and its not like you have incredible speed to fall back on with some endurance training.
No chance. Partly because you don’t have the talent. Partly because you are too old. But mostly because you are living in your head and even with the right talent and age, you’d dream more than work.
In all earnest I wish you luck OP and hope I am wrong.
Coach JS could you elaborate on how breaking 4 is easier than most think? I’m just saying, only about 500 American men to have broken it in history...
With those times I’m sure you can go sub 4 hours in a marathon, would even think you have a shot at sub 3.
