There are no flukes in racing. You train. You show up. You race. You run regardless of the weather. If you are the fastest on the day, you win. You can’t control other people’s training, who shows up, or who races harder in the weather of the day. Race day is one of a kind.
Why does there need to asterisks? Every year is different. Expect the worst. Train for the inevitable. Hope for the best. Race for the win. Sometimes you beat everyone. Sometimes you only beat yesterday’s version of you and showing up is a win. Please stop downgrading other people’s accomplishments to make yourself feel better.
