I want to travel to an off the beaten destination that would still be pretty good for running. I live in the US. Any ideas?

Are you planning domestic?
International preferably.
Slovenia is quickly becoming a “go to” destination for travelers in the know. You might want to check out its capital city, Ljubljana.
Go to upstate New York and work on becoming a 46er.
Luang Prabang, Laos
Quiet. Plenty of areas to run. Great sights. Not overcrowded.
Go to he Gili islands off he coast of Bali in Indonesia. You can run around the island ( all 3 islands are cool and remote)then take in some magic mushrooms before you snorkel. Good times.
I went to the Faroe Islands last year. Great trip, but it rained a lot. Hard to get to, not a lot of tourists. Kind of pricey.
Mongolia.

I wouldn't go there in winter!
Peshawar or Kandahar
Mongolia, Bolivia, Atlas mountains in Morrocco and Algeria, Romania,
Go to Gstaad!
One day I tried to make a list of non-trivial places I would like to visit, and the list actually looks like this:
1. Romania, Transilvania (Dracula's Castle).
2. Sintra (Portugal)
3. Albania
4. Bergamo (Italy)
5.Ahr Valley.
I think I will add Mongolia to this list as one of the commenters suggested, really exotic country to visit (I will use some travel sites as usual

)
New Zealand: Run some of the Great Walks. Queen Charlotte Track would be fantastic. Tongariro Crossing for something shorter.

Been there, done that over 20 years ago. Filled with Europeans especially the French. Only "exotic" for Americans except the US Air Force and the CIA who bombed the sh*t out of that country 50 years ago.
Bhutan
It's what Nepal used to be 100 years ago.
I recommend visiting Georgia. It's a really off the beaten destination. The architecture here is just amazing, you can hire a bicycle and ride across the city or in the wild, nature is awesome as well. Here's an article about places to see in Georgia. Also, I can recommend One way tour (it's their site), I used their services when I traveled to Georgia last time.
I agree with Slovenia. It is probably the best country I've been in so far. I want to go back because there is lots more I want to do. To the person who mentioned Georgia, I want to go there too. Georgia makes the best wine. The Caucaus mountains would be amazing to hike too(Julian Alps in Slovenia are great).
