Super fast kids but hysterically bad pacing
That was a blast. Great race. And what was wrong with the pacing? Looked dead on to me.

The leaders went through 200 under 38 seconds, then averaged ~44 for the last three--with a much worse positive split for the kids farther back.
It's always wonderful to see unbrideled enthusiam on par with Billy Mumphrey.
Nice choice!

So why is this bad? The objective of races is to race.
Little kids don’t know how to race. The objective is to win. Going out too fast causes a runner to have a poorer result which is the opposite of the objective.
The winner 'somewhat' laid off the pace through 500. More even than the others at least.
Fun to watch. Great racing without regard for pacing or overthinking. Thanks for sharing OP.
I was impressed by their form and concentration. And the kid who paced best won, which I always find satisfying.

I didn't say it was "bad"; somebody asked what was wrong with the pacing, and I summarized the pacing that occurred.
Lighten up, Francis.
There's an even better race from the V02 Max kid in the 1500m from USATF Youth Indoor Nationals.
I've seen that kid run a few times this year and its all heart all the time. He doesn't always win but he makes his competition pay a severe price for victory.
Really enjoyed that race - thanks!
lol... yeah, let's resort to critiquing 7-8 year olds' racing.
That was fun to watch. Thanks for posting OP.
