They always use the “nice guy” defense. Nice guys who can’t run HAVE to cheat. Being nice, as opposed to talented & prepared, forces you to cheat to get records.

As for the lawyer, he must not know anything about running if his intimidation is all he’s got.
It's the same argument Greg Pafford, the dentist who kept cheating at Arizona RnR every year used too. "I'm a great guy who does charity work, thus my impossible split times are completely irrelevant." There must be some kind of common logic they teach in both law school and dental school.
And rightfully so! Thete is no evidence, which proves that we have yet another clean WR holder here.
I notice that your belief is no evidence , and neither IAAF nor USATF have any problem here. I take their expertise over this no knowledge chamber every day.
The next L.A. Times article has to be “Frank Meza disqualified from L.A. Marathon and banned for life” right?
Some friendly posts in the comments section aren’t going to save him from this.
“He’s been cleared” or “Insufficient evidence” won’t be the conclusion or the basis of the follow-up article. L.A. has to want to be among the big boys of the sport. This ain’t Lehigh Valley.

Put down the whisky bottle, bro.
One common denominator/red flag of serial cheaters is how they are "doing it for the kids". Looks like Frank is falling back on this.
I am slow, but I am legit AF, and do it only for myself and my own enjoyment. I am repelled by the idea of "doing it for others". I think these do-gooders get caught up in their own "inspirational running" to the point where it becomes pathological.
Has anyone on this thread ever run to "inspire others"? It just seems bizarre to me.
Recall that Lehigh also did the right thing, and considered the evidence and not the armchair analysts of letsrun
How do you know this?

It looks like there will be a follow up in the LA Times as well as an article in the SF Examiner. It's not over yet.

Have either of these bodies ratified Dr. Meza's FKT?

What about the evidence (of which there is a lot)? Does the evidence not count as evidence?
Rumours and statistics about photo counts and washroom breaks are not evidence. Stop smearing clean athletes!
I just love how he never really gives a straight answer, nor has any reporter (so far) actually asked hard hitting questions to his responses.
From the LA Times article: "Meza reiterates he did not cheat, saying he needed to use a restroom and wandered for some time, just off the course, before finding one."
If I'm the reporter I'm saying "Really? So you ran an age group world record time AND stepped off the course to wander for some time before using the bathroom? So in reality, you probably could have run sub 2:50, breaking the current world record by almost 5 minutes? The one held by lifelong runners who have proven results over years and years of running? You don't understand why anyone would question this..at all?"
How come there was no follow-up by the reporter regarding the video from the Phoenix Marathon where Meza doesn't appear?
How come there is no follow up by the reporter regarding GPS info?
Meza has to be the only runner I've ever heard about running sub 3 hours and:
1. Is getting significantly faster with advancing age
2. Never wears a GPS...be it in training or a race..where he could prove times, even in training.
3. Never breaks a sweat in races despite running sub 7 minute miles AND wearing layers
So my interest in this cheating thread has been like all of the other. I've been aware of it but paid no attention to it. Eventaully a thread normally gets big enough that I decide to look into it. This time it was a little different. A few weeks ago the LA Times reporter called to ask me if I knew anything about it all. I told him I hadn't looked into it at all but would soon and get a quick conclusion. Sure enough, I read this thread for about 10 minutes and then the marathon investigation articles and realizde the guy is a cheat. I thought the LA Times article did an ok job save for one crucial thing. Why are we debating if he's a cheat? He's been DQd from two races. You don't get DQd unless you cheat. The only questton is whether he cheated in his age 70 WR run and Derek Murphy proved tha the did. No one in the world slows down nearly 2 minutes per mile before half-way in marathon and then runs a WR.

On the section of the course that we can prove Frank ran, his pace was much slower than any of his other recorded splits. His verified pace of 8:23 minutes per mile is nearly two minutes per mile slower than his overall pace.
That simply doesn't happen. Case closed.
So what do you guys want me to do? Write an article calling him a cheat? Issue another Mike Rossi tpe challenge?
I offered Mike Rossi $200,000 if he broke his time at a legit marathon. He didn't do it. I also offered him $10,000 to run a 5k in 20:00.
Should I do something like that here?
I mean his marathon is equivalent to a sub 18 5k. There's zero chance he could do that as the US record is 18:43.
HIs marathon race pace comes out to 20:31 for 5k. Should we offer $10,000 for that or is that too easy? I don't think many 70 year olds are capable of that let alone a fraud like this guy.
Do we know anyone who runs with the guys? Is there a training group he is part of ? I mean if you are running 3 hours in the marathon you have to be training fairly often and would be seen. I'd like to get a little more info and then issue a challenge.
Let me hear your ideas as to what you want me to do.
Here are the rossi articles:
Rossi $10,000 if he was able to break 20:00 for 5k
Finally Rojo speaks...and is open to a Rossi-esque Challenge!

I agree with revisiting the Rossi challenge of $10k for a sub 20 5K and to make it interesting we ask Rossi and Kip if they want to be Pacers.
While finding it odd that anyone would cheat in road racing to try and boost their own self worth, it's especially sad that a 70 year old respected member of society has such low self esteem that he feels the need to revert to cheating to battle his internal demons.
Gotta say it makes you wonder if there's more going on here than meets the eye, especially when you see doubler's comment below:
I think a sub 20min for 5k is a fair challenge, any money could be donated to a local LA charity of Frank's choice. Frank would get to clear his name and a charity would benefit reinforcing his 'nice guy' credentials.
Incidentally your money is safe he's simply not capable.
