Why would I want to see a video of myself running up the road for a few secs?
I noticed that one of the races I recently ran posted poor quality video of runners crossing a checkpoint and the finish line. I couldn't figure out why they would record and post such video, but now it makes more sense. Deterrence.

Mentally challenged or not, he is correct.
I've read that thread and was there on every page as it went down.
off course Oscar (and 1/2 dozen others) contributed a lot and posted more than one idea/thought that others hadn't thought of.
ExpertKipWatcher could not have been on that thread as much or he'd know that. I think he may be mental with a handle like that.

Derek, from the high-res photos can you tell what his inside out shirt says in reverse? It doesn’t quite look like the race volunteer shirts but a similar hue that might let him hang around the start line unnoticed.
I believe it is a Pasadena Half Marathon shirt turned inside out.
Not an exact match but perhaps enough to go unnoticed by volunteers hanging out by different parts of the course

The Fake 3 hour marathoner has been outed! Good one mate!
this is really great. how much time and energy are needed to figure out how to camouflage one's inability to run fast?

Do I think videos would completely stop cheating? No.
I’m putting on my race director cap. I care about my race. I’d protect it the best I could and let the cheaters go to your race.
A couple of volunteers, a couple of video cameras. This isn’t rocket science. Nor is it expensive. Those arguments are canards.
Drones too. We need lots of drones. Maybe personal drones following every runner. If they go off course, the drone takes them out.
If we stop all the course cutters, they will just start lying about their times.

Bingo! Bragging about a sub 3 that never happened or setting an over 70 record. If it ain't right, it ain't right.

nice map! not sure if you got your question answered w/ respect to where is this photo from, but the photo of fm in the background with runner 1148 in front of him is on the final stretch of the marathon on ocean ave. (approximately mile 25.7) see post under this user name on page 100, with the details.

The hi res were never obtained, Derek said he had enough evidence to prove he cheated.

There is an image showing the fantastical progression of Frank Meza in the marathon! From 3:19:59 at the age of 60 for an age graded score of 75% to 2:53:10 at 70 and an age graded score of 95%! For people who actually understand running, this is a fantastical progression, especially for someone who by his own admission has been running all his life. Sure, it is possible for someone who comes into running late in life to improve and maybe even follow this exact trajectory. Personally, I doubt the 3:19:59 is a legit time achieved without cheating. This looks more like a calculated plan to steadily improve over a decade of cheating.

This is a really striking way to present the data, nice work.
Putting this in perspective, I started running as a college freshman in 1990 and had my best success as an open athlete as a college senior in 1994. I came back as a masters runner and have been steadily at it for about 7-8 years. My best age grade percentages from my times in the mid 90s (spanning from the 3000m through the 10,000m) and my best age grade percentages as a masters runner (spanning from the 5000m through the marathon) - a stretch spanning over 25 years - are all within about 4 percentage points, with no material improvement or decline in age grade percentages over time.
2015 and 2016 were big years. Haha, a must to check out "last photo on the 4th row", and this is the one where he recorded 2:52:47 lol:

Third and fourth photos from the end are the same spot where he jumped in LA2019, (change in concrete colour) notice everyone else is out wide in the middle of the road, Frank is close to the gutter like he's just jumped in a bit further back.
Gotta love the last photo on the 4th row - two shirtless guys and a woman in a sports bra looking like they’re running a decent pace. And then there’s Frank. Deer in the headlights. Both feet on the ground. Stumbling like he’s failing a sobriety test.

I should point out that California International Marathon DQ'd Frank based on running a 36 minute 10k at the end of his marathon in 2014 at the age of 65. A 36 minute 10k at 65 gets an age graded score of 95%, the same score Frank got at the LA Marathon for the whole thing! If CIM DQ'd Frank off this, why hasn't LA Marathon done the right thing yet?
