He says he lost 2 minutes in 2018 when he ran into a hotel to pee. So here are his 5k splits from 2018:
20:32; 18:55; 22:03; 21:45; 19:39; 24:13; 19:44
So I'd be interested in asking him where exactly the hotel was. The obvious split would be the 30-35k split, since he "ran" so much slower in that stretch. Do those who are more familiar with the course know where hotels are along the course? If he could be nailed down as to which hotel he actually claims to have used, someone could work out if it was actually even feasible, i.e. he couldn't really say he stopped at such-and-such hotel if it was during his 18:55 split. The hotel itself could be checked as to whether there is even a toilet available that could feasibly be used in that time span.
He sort of incriminates himself by admitting there was no way he could have split 36:xx for 10k, since he "can't run 10k that fast". That was in CIM 2014. So how did he manage to run in the same ballpark several years later (and older) in LA for at least a few miles?
These "pretty fast" 8-milers with "the boys" - how fast are they exactly? For a guy who can run a marathon at 6:40 +/- per mile, and can run 5k splits in those races in 18:55, a "fast" 8-miler would have to be sub-6:30 pace at least, I would think. I'd be curious if any of "the boys" would vouch for this.
I find the explanation for the phantom 36-minute 10k at 2014 particularly bothersome. It's such a non-explanation, and then we're just supposed to move along to the next subject. It's like he thinks that by being honest (I can't run that fast), people will just write it off as some sort of misunderstanding. But there are only so many ways timing mats can be induced to indicate somebody ran from point A to point B in 36+ minutes. "Huh, that's weird" isn't an explanation. Nobody else seems to suffer from impossibly fast splits in their marathons.
