Lewis & Clark, a small Division 3 school in Portland, just had their head Track & XC coach retire (Keith Woodard). Suddenly, as in 2 days ago without any notice (that I can tell).
Anyone know the backstory?

No, but it's odd for sure. As a longtime member of the Portland/NW running community he was never a coach I heard anything weird about him. I think the team's recent poor performances in 2018 XC and track likely played a role. Hoping it's related to issues between him and the administration and not something more sinister.

Knowing that institution's history (since the 80's) in terms of XC & Track performance, I doubt that'd be the reason. And Keith's legacy there (as a former athlete), and protégé of the Fix coaches (Eldon, then Dave), seems like he'd stay as long as he wanted. They recently had a President change, so maybe there was an issue there. To retire after the season has already started generally means there was something a bit more involved than a simple retirement.
Plus, given that Keith's a L&C Athletics Hall of Fame member, you'd think that there would have been a small retirement event of some kind like some of the other outgoing retirees. I'll probably see him around at some point...
