I've come to really dislike Robert De Niro due to his awful pension funding topping performances, like that one in that abysmal film with Anne Hathaway.
However, having just rewatched Goodfellas for the first time in years, I was shocked to notice how much he'd already started phoning it in even back then. e.g. the scene when he's supposed to be crying when he finds out Tommy got whacked. Stunningly bad.
Was he ever really a great actor or just a cartoon?
He was good in that movie, and he was good in the scene you're complaining about.
Little Amanda in her pigtails is going to tell us how a sociopathic mobster is supposed to cry when their buddy gets whacked?
De Niro is probably a piece of shitt person, and may very well be a sexual predator, but he wasn't phoning it in in Goodfellas.
De Niro was close friends with Harvey Weinstein, and Weinstein used De Niro's restaurant to prey on a large number of young women.
And I have a theory that some sexual deviants/pedophiles marry black women as a form of virtue signaling and disguise for their sexual deviancy. See George Lucas too.
