I am confident that raw red meat will help your schizophrenia.

Cool. If you get really sick make sure to inform your health care team that you don’t believe in medication since it is all based on flimsy “science” that you can’t see with your eyes.

For the record, running/walking is more likely to treat mental illness. Obviously my enemies have proven there’s no cure.

Yep, exactly. Vegetarianism is a delusion. Our ancestors ate 85% raw red meat and 15% grain, so we should too.
Laugh. Out. Loud. Guy "only" runs 2:16 marathon after being mostly vegetarian all of his life. Apparently a 2:16-2:20 marathon range is now the bar to prove you need to eat meat.
So what does everybody else in the world who is slower need to eat? Plutonium? Captain Rogers' serum?

Soyboy post.
No one said that meat-eaters are inherently fast. Or that meat-eating guarantees athletic prowess.
However, vegans are ALWAYS slow.
A real question for Sage: do you ever consider having a professional coach again? Weren’t your fasted times while with the Hansons Brooks team? Appreciate your responses and openness.
Can we stop talking about veganism vs red meat? They’re are fast athletes with all kinds of diets.
The problem (main) with issues such as diet and the science surrounding it is politics (and those seeking a big pay day) have infiltrated science leading to fraudulent data being produced. Take Climate Change change as exhibit A. No doubt that it is occurring, but some science says man is playing a huge role in it while other science says man isn't. Each tribe then has its own "proof" while attacking the other tribe calling them idiots and deniers. Sad times.
Anyway, Sage, live your life as you see fit and enjoy every second of it. I hope to one day see you out on the trails(but much further behind).
Yes, but i like the freedom of coaching myself and being responsible for myself. Sometimes there is too much self bias coaching oneself though and i admit to probably over-racing and mixing up #AnySurfaceAnyDistance too often. There has been a lot of "undertraining" too where I haven't done consistent blocks of high mileage and I think that has hurt me as well a times in performances. I've been very happy to stay healthy though after all these years..and part of that is my "conservative long-term approach". One can hide on the trails with "ultra base fitness"...but the roads keep one honest! I mean I ran 6+ marathons just last year (some road some trail). Keep in mind at Hansons-Brooks I focused only on the road half/full marathon for 2.5 years fresh out of college (where I also ran marathons in college and had a lot of 5km/10km speed training). I also had a bunch of 2:15 or so marathon teammates pulling me along in every workout and nearly every single run. I think that is probably the biggest influence. I also ran some really bad races at Hansons like 1:08-1:07 halfs on really fast courses (Philly etc) as well as the second slowest marathon of my career....a 2:24 at Boston on a perfect weather day... I think if i focused just on roads right now after 1-2 years I could probably for sure get back down around 2:18-2:17 on a fast course in good conditions (maybe not though who knows). But I'm not going to do that...I'm sponsored to be a mountain-ultra-trail runner and it has more perks and is a lot more fun. And I also still consider my race at Boston in 2015 (16th place, 2:19:12) to be on par with my 2:16:52 PR performance given the weather conditions that day and how I placed. I did that coaching myself and it was like 7 weeks right after getting 8th place at the USATF Marathon Champs in LA. Sure, I'd love to get a 3rd OTQ....but it doesn't have as much influence on my career as say a top 3 at Comrades would (which I think I can do) or another win at TNF50 San Fran.

Sage, the fact you come on here and give real answers is very impressive. I respect that. I’m wishing you the best. I think Comrades especially on an “up” year suits your skills. It would be great if you could do well there. Anyway thanks for answering and good luck in your next race!

Tell me more about how 2:16 is slow. FYI, this"soyboy" eats lots of steak and mashed potatoes. I'm just defending the vegan crowd from ridiculous unsubstantiated opinions like yours.
Why do you suck so bad, Sage?
This place is ridiculous.

Serious question as a fan: I know that you say this often, if this is the case then why will your 3 latest races all have been on the roads: Portland, Rotterdam, Comrades. If you are a MUT runner shouldn't the focus be the mountains? Why even mess around with the marathon and Comrades? I personally think you should be running things like Hardrock or Leadville, not Rotterdam and Comrades. My personal view is that you are having trouble shedding the road races and it is detrimental to your overall career as a sponsored MUT runner.
When is the next 100 mile on the track record attempt?
