So there this tedious co-worker, across the hall from me. I have an office with a window and a door and he is in a cubicle. On a daily basis, he clearly has zero to accomplish and shares that widely He's an Admin Assistant to MY boss. He's 55 or so.
He spends a lot of time hovering around my office. I'm in sales and I need to keep cranking out the calls. But whenever I get off the phone, he comes into my office to complain about everything that's wrong with this company. He's not amusing, interesting, just ....bored. If I close my door, then the sales people who report to me won't stop by with their ongoing issues. I've even tried closing my door, emailing them to say,"hey, if you want to talk to me, just come and knock and we can talk." I've tried to be diplomatic and say that I am really slammed. I've made it really obvious I need to get stuff done. It doesn't seem to sink in. Even when I think I have been really clear...Look, I have a lot to do today, I can't talk....he just loiters and chats about current events, his kids, the weather, the car he may buy....nothing. This is like a bad episode of The Office, I know. But it's wrecking my work life.
Should I go to his director, my boss, and say something?
