Amazingly, I saw inline skaters breaking one hour on the Berlin Marathon course.

Even at the pace of the world record 36.84 4x100m. it would still take over 1:04 for them to run the marathon. So, that's gonna be a no for me dog.
Only if you are Johnny Manziel's wife.

No moving the goalposts! I'm an elite cyclist now.
No shot any normal human breaks 1 hour in the marathon. Unless they are some future "cyborg" that blurs the definition of human, it is physically impossible.
According to scientists, humans have a natural speed limit based upon metabolic rates and oxygen absorption. If I remember correctly I think they said humans can theoretically run sub 9 in the 100m but that's where it maxes out.

Oh, he has a spear, if you know what I mean.

That actually might be a great outdoor event.
Get rid of the 50 k walk.

What are the chances of Runners sprinting the Marathon in under sub 1 hour in the future?
"Runner" does not necessarily mean "human". The pronghorn antelope, for example, could hardly not be called a runner, and is estimated to run the marathon in 45 minutes. So the answer to your question is "effectively 100%".

LOL yeah this is never happening. unless scientists give a guy ostrich legs like that other poster said haha
Bolt's top speed is 12.35 m/s, which is 57:56 for a marathon. So far, the best distance for someone running that speed is 10m.

But a 34 second 400 is sloooooow

Thanks for the math my man. Woof woof... So if Usain bolt mastered the ability to control his mind and involuntary muscles etc etc through deep meditation instead of retiring we would all be a living witness to a sub 1 hour marathon. Case closed. Thank you all. Hehe

I'm surprised it took this long for cyborg to come up. It strikes me as odd how few people see what's coming. When you combine the ability to manipulate on an atomic level with robotic advances and technology in general cyborgs are not just possible they are an inevitability. Just as it's inevitable that will only be a phase as well before we ultimately to return to pure light/energy. And don't think for a minute you won't jump on board. Ignorance is never bliss. Knowing infinity is bliss. That is when "we" will be able to run a marathon in under an hour. But you have to realize as we go through these phases things like competitive running becomes obsolete.
I can't give you a date, but the numbers suggest it'll be less than 50 years to the time we are exploring the universe in robotic bodies that do not need oxygen. No clue when we go back to being pure light, or maybe it's pure darkness like a black hole. Whatever the case, we'll be able to run sub-1 when it doesn't matter anymore.
Maybe some day on a low gravity planet with a thin atmosphere to minimize wind drag, but some gadget to supply enough oxygen. Or maybe a treadmill on a low gravity planet. How fast can someone run on an AlterG treadmill?
The OP is delusional. Biomechanics will never allow our species to do this. The fact that there does not exist an animal that could even distantly come close to it itself proves that it will never happen.
Since marathon times have not evolved that drastically in the last 50 years, 2:01 will stay around for a long long long time as the WR. It will take a stretch for a human to go sub-2. Even sub-1:50 wil not happen
When China discovers the masking tape exercise and starts a breeding program for elite speedsters... if jester doesn't have to kill them all over the secret.
None whatsoever.
To put in perspective, haven't you noticed that even an overweight guy on a bicycle escorting the top marathoners of the world effortlessly cruising or easier than that, while the runners are running themselves into exhaustion? Case in point: remember the water bottle dude that helped Kipchoge run the world record? How many times the dude stopped, got off his bike and resumed without any effort? Get a grip or get off the pipe bro.

The same way we wish you could control your mind and involuntary muscles etc. etc. through deep meditation before you post such flagrant stupidity.
A lot more likely than in the past.
