So we had our first track practice today. Coach had mid-distance (400 up) and distance guys running 800 repeats at what equates to my VO2Max pace based on my 3200 PR from last season. Now this was everyone - guys that have not run all off-season, guys that came from other sports, a handful of guys that have run ~20 mpw, and myself (70 mpw). I ran relaxed and felt fine, but most guys were gassed. I'm no expert, but shouldn't guys be running a training pace equivalent to their current fitness level, or is this just a strategy to get everyone in shape?
