Ethiopians and Steeple Chase

The conservative Orthodox church in Ethiopia bans all steepling of any sort, or anything in general that involves chasing a church. It's considered unbecoming of a Christian to go to church in this manner, and they all walk. As a result, they finish in about a half hour.

Young Bekele could run sub 8:10 next week. Why not let him branch off and get his own medal

Aren't Ethiopians relatively short? I mean, Geb's like 5'4", Bekele's about the same height. Shit, El G makes them look short and he's only 5'8" or so. At that height, 36 inch barriers could be a problem for them.

Yeah they are pretty short but the figures on EL G being only 5'8" are not to be trusted. Look at pictures of him beside other people in the 5'10"-6' range and he is about their height. The 5'8" 58 kilos stuff was probably taken when he first began competing and grew since then. There are picutures of him standing beside Roger Bannister (6' 3/4") and he is not much smaller.

Generally speaking ,us Ethiopians are too smart to crash into fences and jump into water like them crazy Kenyans or malmo.
