By the way, I would be pumped if I had a double AA in any D1 NCAA championship. Way to go Robert, next stop outdoors.

It's pretty simple. It was a hyperbolic thread title, with "Has anyone else been as good at squeezing out All-American finishes?" posed as the actual question, followed by you getting your panties in a bunch because you have nothing better to do but get upset about it.

I think the school boys here got theirs twisted because I pointed out that 8th in any race anywhere makes you an also-ran. Even in my own country, believe it or not. But so much patriotic indignation, as though an attack had been made in motherhood and apple-pie!

Pumped, yes, but would that make you "the greatest of all time"?
Yes he is the greatest and only getting better. Olympics coming next year.

Well, let's hope you're right.
Robert, if you are reading this, you are great and we love you. Please ignore this awful thread.

all american status is not "also-ran". Out of tens of thousands of runners, only 8 get all american status. its a big deal. i'm sorry you are too embarrassed to let us know where you are from, but you seem really bitter towards american runners competing and doing well
Interesting to note also is that 1/2 of the AAs are typically foreigners which makes the status even more impressive.

You guys do realise that saying a certain runner did well in certain races in the US is not the same as claiming that makes them one of the "greatest of all time" (as the OP did) in an international sport? You can recognise someone's achievements without incorporating them in a patently absurd claim.
1/2 of the guys who beat Brandt were foreigners so it does make him one of the best. The US is the best overall country for athletics. The talent is spread across football and basketball yet the US contiunes to top the world in sprints and is one of he best for distance running.

National pride is understandable but remind me again how many Olympic champions the US has produced in distance running over the last half-century. I count 3. Not quite world-leading.

Unless you are from Kenya or Ethiopia, you don't have much of a right to talk.

The Olympic qualifying marks are 13.13.5 for the 5k and 27.28 for the 10k. I would be surprised at a 23 year old athlete who is currently running just sub 14 and sub 29 for the 5k and 10k respectively losing that amount of time in a year.
