Any word on how is he as a coach? Obviously, he is an amazing runner, but does anyone have an opinion on his coaching style or any insight on how athletes have progressed under him?

If he coaches anything like Jerry, all of his kids will have short careers.
Not a single distance athlete has done anything of substance. They didn't even make it to NCAA Cross this year. Just shows that money doesn't produce good distance runners.

How long has he been a head coach? It usually takes a few years to get a program going.

Florida is such a place with a lot of the nice appeal. Many young Scandinavians like to vacation there and includes the talents of the endurance athlete youths. Recruiting them and also understand the current young peoples cultures, this was different from the Times not so long ago, yes. The athletes must be engaged and motivated also to make their energies into performances.

He's only been at Uf for a year and doesn't have a lot to work with. That program is sprint focussed and Gainesville is not a place where most distance runners would want to run. There's no good running areas, it's out in the middle of nowhere and it hot as crap 3/4 of the year.
The Hammock is close to campus, used to do some good long runs there, nice soft trails.
I thought Gainsville was really nice for runners, it was Liquori's home base and a lot of runners followed in the 70's at least.
I doubt we will ever know how good he is while he is at Florida. I'd be surprised if he is given more than 1 full scholarship for his entire distance crew on the mens side. UF spends their money on events they know they can win at, which is sprint/hurdle/jump and throws. I think almost no money is spent on PV or distance in the last 10 years - but they have won 9 national championships during that time, so why mess with what works?
Solinsky knew that going in to Florida. He certainly gets more scholarship money on the women’s side.

His men's team at William and Mary loved him, and the guys got better under his coaching. His best recruiting class was the one that came in as he left for Florida, and he had some even better runners on the hook for the following year that decided not to go to William and Mary after he bolted. He could have built something special in Williamsburg, but he decided to go for the money at Florida. His system is strength based, so not ideal for those who get injured easily. Expect to be up over 100 miles a week as soon as possible and then up to 120+ by the time you are a senior.
Strength based 100-120mpw in Florida will be a challenge from April through October. Does Solinsky not adapt his mileage to suit individual runners ?

He will adapt a little bit, and he will have guys be in certain workout groups, but his program is strength-based even for the middle distance guys in track. Longer long runs, longer intervals, less rest between intervals. If you don't think you can handle a 20 mile training run, then you should think about going somewhere else. His biggest problem in Florida will be recruiting. Florida has to make some sort of commitment to distance running. At William and Mary, there was only scholarship money for distance runners. That is not the case at Florida.
No, Florida+Solinsky do not train distance runners to be strength based the way that Colorado or NAU train for strength based. No 20milers or junk mileage. Holloway has a large input into the distance runners training and it makes for a very balanced program. Workouts are very high quality, even long workouts have a very fast pace to them. Most of the men aren't over 80mpw. He had a freshman run 14:20 and one of his women ran 15:30, pretty sure hes a good coach.

Anyone who uses the term "junk mileage" is a idiot.
His freshman ran a 14:35 last summer, but it's still an improvement.
Gainesville is a nice city to run in. I assume they don't give much cash to the distance program.
Most of the top runners in the 2019 graduating class in Florida are going out of state.
The 800m runners are going to FSU.
Freshman ran 14:10 this indoor season. Young team with a lot of returners. They'll be solid next year

I'm not saying it's impossible, but if he can get kids through the summer in FL running 100 mpw I'll be surprised. 100 miles in FL sun is much much different than Summers in at Wisco or Oregon. Heat is real. Humidity is very real.
