Gregorek is very strong and closes well but I'm not sure that suits him for your average 1500 which features a big change in gears. He's probably better suited for a time trial than a real 1500 race.
Or, as Gregorek put it a few months ago, "Tactical racing can unfortunately take away from who is the fittest."
I love how everyone knows what the BU track is. Everyone pr’s on the track. Barely, if ever, going faster outdoors and yet somehow y’all continue to put stock in it.

A "time trialer" who made the world championship final.... sit down please.
Well if we are going to be honest, let's look at how he made the final. At Worlds in 2017, he didn't finish in the top half of any of this three races.
In the first round, he was 8th of 15 in his heat and got out on time.
In the semis, he was 7th of 13th in his heat and the top 7 all moved on.
In the final, he was 10th of 12th.
At the Ivy League level, he never won an Ivy Leauge 1500 or mile title.
I think those results all indicate he's better at time trialing than tactical 1500s. Dude is still a 3:49 freaking miler but it blows my mind that people can't be objective about this.

rojo you are confused as to the meaning of "time trial". When you line up at a world championship race, and do not know where or when everyone is going to go from jogging to a kick (or even blasting from the gun), that is not a time-trial situation. Last weekend was a TT situation, they knew the planned splits and had pacers designated. Completely different than the races you cite. He has done well at both. It's not that hard, I don't know why you can't understand this.

Yeah, but he's done a lot better as a time-trailer than as a racer. He's such a good time-trialer that he's the 7th fastest American, ever. As a racer, he's made the final at Worlds, where he finished 10th. Since then, his record has been solid, but not spectacular. He was DFL in the B Mile at Pre last year, and 9th at Nationals. He was 3d at indoors, and has lost to Engels three times in the last month or so. As a racer, he's just another American stuck at 3:35.
It's pointless to argue about this. We'll see this summer whether he's able to turn his fitness into race results. I hope he does.
Man, is there anything runners can do to actually get appreciated on these boards??? This guy just ran a 3:32 equivalent performance, which is 2 seconds faster than his outdoor 15 pb! And all people are doing are downplaying this achievement. At the very least staying healthy he should be able to run some sort of equivalent time outdoors which would set him up for being one of the fastest US milers of 2019 season!
Nope, at least among Americans Steve Scott ran 3:49.93 and 3:31.76 while sponsored by Asics (both in 1985). His 3:47.69 mile was in Nikes? when he ran for the Sub4 Track club in 1982.

It blows my mind of how much of a late bloomer he is. The dude didn't break 4:00 until his 5th year and now he runs sub 3:50?! Any Columbia dudes want to chime in on his college career ? Was he just constantly injured?

OU site erroneously list JG @ 6'5"
Johnny is 6'1"

Gregorek could take the AR in the 1500 & mile this year. He runs better outdoors. A possible 3:29 in Monaco is not out of the question.

Gregorek hasn't delivered on the promise of sub-3:50 mile at BU in March. He was 4th in the DL mile in Oslo, 11th at Pre, 10th at USAs and 2nd at the Pan Am games, behind a guy whose PB is over 2 seconds slower.

Amen; I will wear my Johnny G jersey out proudly tomorrow to support him.
indoor times are faster, reason why most people don't run faster indoors is that they don't peak for it like they do for outdoors.
