Distance runner in D2. Just narrowly missed nats in cross country and indoor track. About mid-January after an indoor meet, I started dealing with achilles tendinitis in my left foot. For the remainder of indoor, we essentially just did our best to maintain fitness and didn't build much. Lots of cross training and easy running to try and keep the body fresh for racing.
Well with outdoor about to start, I've taken the last week after conference pretty light and hoping that aided the healing process a little bit.
Anyway, I don't really have a choice except to train and compete through this injury. I've gotten some new shoes with a high heel drop and lots of padding. I have been using diclofenac topical gel and taking aspirin before races and hard workouts. Lots of scraping and muscle mobilizations in the trainers room as well as keeping on rolling the calf. I'm up to 15 eccentric heel drops per leg per day.
Does anyone have any recommendations on how to train through the injury? Maybe any mental tips on how to compete when you know you're not 100%. I think the big thing will be just knowing what days we can push a little more and which days it's best to back off.
Thanks for reading and your advice.
