Omg Sato second half was 73:03. He went out at 2:04:08 pace and had a second half at 2:26:06 pace. From 40km to finish, he ran 9:50. That is 3:09:31. One of the biggest blowups ever.
The difference between Sato and the rest of the guys is he was going for broke because he already qualified, he was either blowing up or getting a big PB, and he blew up spectacularly

More Americans need to Stinson it like this. Sure, 9 times out of 10 you'll crash and burn. But once in a while you get lucky, and set a huge PB.
Is there a race tracker for runners still on the course? Can't find anything on their website.
Or is there a live stream of the finish line somewhere? Looking to see a friend finish.
What was Matt Llano’s time when he pranced across the finish line?
Thankfully since Desi wasn’t running we didn’t have to endure seeing the ‘Josh hug’

Wasting his time with Ryan Hall and the Cox man.

He needs to stop playing drama too much. Marathon is hard enough without whining about how hard life is. Obviously runners with lighthearted approach fare better. Being overzealous or**deleted** certainly won't help to loosen up... And one needs to be RELAXED to run fast :)
Like literally.
But on a more serious note. Notice how the Japanese runners are the definition of grit. Pushing it to the max and collapsing as they cross the line. When was the last time a elite American runner did that?

If Americans did that everyone on letsrun would make fun of them and then they'd get fewer instragrams likes and less sponsorship.

Grit is more impressive, than what some basement dwelling dweebs think.
It sucks that we didn't get to see Bekele here. Would have been a handy win for him and a good confidence boost for running in the same city for the Olympics next year.
Ageed. Grit is megaimportant. But showing how much grit you have in social media AND not actually showing it when it matters... that is not grit.
Alas, everyone can have a bad day. It's just when you ONLY have bad days and tell a lot about it on insta or tweeter again it is NOT grit.
This sport doesn't have that many fans. And letsrun is probably as organized as these fans can be. So hell yes, it's a cool thing to take a hint and entertain your fanbase once in a while.
That is exactly what japanese corp runners do. And that is what so few US folks do.
Think about why people love Ritz. They couldn't care less if he doped or smth. They totally love him for that 2004 XC final where he laid everything he had bare to win. That attitude is what is lacking.
Or was it 2000? The one he blew by Hall and Webb by 20 seconds, going from behind. Well, the point is clear.

You fooled LRC and made it into the official race report, but running one 7:30 mile at the end of a 2:15 marathon -- and missing your PR by 6 minutes -- is definitely not one of the biggest blowups ever.
