Generally speaking, yes, it's not a good place.

You people disgust me. I lived there in the early 70s and it was nirvana, then it got "discovered" and is now ruined.

And who said the beer in MI is better than CO?! Only decent breweries I found when living in MI were Bell's and Founder's. Denver metro area alone (and Boulder) has amazing beer (um, Avery!).
It is an opinion. I like Avery, Mountain Sun, Left hand. It is all good. But when I left Boulder, I never craved to have it back.
Bell's Two Hearted is my all time favorite IPA. Blackrocks Brewery has my favorite US Pilsner- very flavorful, crisp, and refreshing without being boring and bland like so many others. Old Nation has a NE IPA (M43) which is to die for and tastes like an IPA mimosa. For creativity, Oddside has a ton of interesting and flavorful beers if Sours and Stouts are your thing.
Like I said, happy to be back west for many reasons. But I miss MI beer. Maybe Traverse City a touch as well.
Boulder is probably a close second, but tied with CA or OR for beer IMO.
If we're speaking trails, walkability, quality of life- Boulder is the best place I've ever lived.

I have lived in NV, IL, MA, MD, CO, WV, and OK. Best cycling scene was OK. Best running, MA. I love Colorado but Front Range traffic is absolutely atrocious.
IMO, Boulder is Disneyland for rich hippies. Its cool for a Sunday ride but living there just isn't sustainable for most.
There are good interesting people everywhere. There are opinionated hacks everywhere. Do what you can to make your corner of the world better.
Yes, and posts like yours helped defeat corrupt Hillary. Thanks!
Yeah, I am sure LRC posts had a MAJOR impact on the 2016 election. Hyperbole much?
The ranking of states above is actually pretty accurate—especially if you’re a runner and outdoors enthusiast.
Snowflakes in undesirable states apparently can’t handle the truth though.
Okay so now you're saying that MI is a better beer state than CA, OR AND CO?! Bell's Two Hearted is good (I actually thought Hopslam was quite special and Oberon wasn't bad)...but now I'm really questioning your taste in Beer. Avery alone has about 30-40 brews on tap most days....that sheer selection is amazing (from their Pilsner to 2 year old aged bourbon barrel stouts to their half dozen IPAs, quality sours and everything in-between ) and the quality is quite high IMO. Obviously I'm biased though as I am sponsored by Avery. That is just one of Boulder's breweries (and dare i say the beer scene in the Denver metro area is even better.....then you have all the beer in Fort Collins as well...and across the state in all the mountain towns).
People and their beer comparisons. Lol. There so much damn good beer in all of the states you’re comparing! It’s an embarrassment of riches.
I lived in Oregon and there was incredible beer everywhere. I now live in Texas and there’s remarkably good beer being made here.
The craft beer scene has blown up.
Oh, and Boulder is awesome. Not picking if you say otherwise.
I wonder if craft beer will go out of style now that the WHO has come out and said no amount of alcohol is good for health and longevity. Alcohol is still a poison. It’s OK every once in awhile, but to expect it’s going to help your health at all is crazy. And it likely harms some craft beer drinkers’ health because people in these cool cities drink way way too much of it. And the ABVs of 8-10%+ it’s probably relatively easy to overdo it...
Yes, I think MI has the best beer in the country. Lived in 9 states so far. MI has been my favorite for beer, if nothing else about it.
Spent 8 years in Boulder. It has great beer for sure. So do the Denver/FoCo breweries I've been to. Avery is indeed solid. I like the new taproom a lot, they've done a solid job. Like I said, I just don't crave their beers. Closest thing to craving in CO for me is Mountain Sun. My personal opinion- MI>CA>CO=OR>everywhere else.
We are super lucky to live in these times! We can basically get good local craft beer anywhere. Wasn't like that not long ago. But MI is still my personal fav for beer.
If you live and work in Denver, how often do you run on the trails? Just on weekends?
In fairness it got really hot compared to your time in the 'aoghts, 105 degree days back to back and you never saw that either. So that date is October 8th now. IMO it hasn't moderated back to late 1980s by a long shot but the year of the floods was the best Indian Summer that you can imagine.
You did check every other box quite well and the homelessness is 20 times worse now. Psychedelics hardly get noticed these days when there's 40 dispensaries in town now and someone blows up a house from making butane hash about every five months.
Boy you must be in CO because you high!
Yes, complaining about the "Craft beer scene" is a total first world problem. For the guy from MI (you seem like a very proud Michigander....I guess most people are proud of the state they grew up in). Not many would agree with you that the craft beer scene in MI is better than CA, OR and CO though...it may be what you crave and miss....but that is all subjective of course and full of bias (I'm biased too being from OR and now living in CO and visiting CA a lot).
Everybody should know by now that alcohol is linked to cancer and all sorts of health problems. That is nothing new unless you are totally clueless about science and basic health. Everything in moderation. Don't ever drink and drive either.
For the record this weekend in Boulder it sucks for running....it got below 0 degrees(F) last night and snowed like 6" downtown. There is a decent amount of ice and snow on the roads and everywhere... I'm probably still going to run 19 miles outside today though....even though I have a gym membership and don't mind the treadmill. No sun either. I've lived in Boulder 6 winters and I think this is probably the roughest winter I've seen weather-wise. We've also had the flood and some forest fires here....so there's that.
Another big advantage of Boulder is it's proximity to Denver and the international airport. There is also proximity to higher elevations and heading west into the big mountains across the rest of the state. Traffic is really only bad if you live outside of town and are driving during rush-hour. On a really bad day maybe it takes 15-20min to drive across the actual town of Boulder. Usually anywhere I want to go in Boulder proper is within 10-15min....I agree that traffic to Denver and anywhere near HWY36 or I-25 is pretty bad. But I've driven in Seattle, Portland and LA so its hard to compare what "bad traffic is."
What an outstanding PLOW job today in Boulder. Best PLOW job I have ever seen! The roads are so well PLOWED TODAY IN BOULDER (sarcasm)
solar magic & chinook winds FTW

+1
2013 floods in Boulder were bad but only 2-3 days of that in Sept, 2013. Couple people died though.
This winter has been worse than usual. Still nothing compared to New England winters...or Midwest
+1, just that the winter weather has sucked here lately

Not much solar and no chinooks yesterday. You weren't in CO.

Alcohol is poison. Weed is helpful. Boy, how we had it wrong all those years.
And unless you're in SoCal, the weather sucks. It's even rough here these past few weeks, but you know what happens when we get a few rainy days? Yep, your weather REALLY sucks.
(There's more to SoCal than LA, but I'll stop there.)
