But if he moved to a normal town in middle America, than he could easily get a job. Where he has plenty of time to train.
Let’s be honest, he most likely will
Continue to run and compete but obviously running won’t be his priority. Lots of OT qualifiers work full time jobs if not most of them.
Nailed it. Another reality that no one talks about is that a lot of professional runners are still living off of wealthy parents. Especially rampant in the ultra running world of "professional athletes."

This is exactly what I did. Poured my heart into 5k training for an Olympic cycle. I didn't make it, but I finally broke 20 minutes. No regrets.

Back in the day a career job was 9am to 5pm.
Now the normal career job is 8am to 7pm.
The professional landscape has changed and you see the direct result in the lack of elite and sub elite depth in the US marathon scene.
What sort of loser is working 8am - 7pm? Jesus.

Good lord, at least try to skim the article before posting it.
those numbers include teenagers 16-19 working ~20 hours a week and semi-retired people.
Men ages 25-54: 40.8 hours a week.
Married men worked 4.6 hours more than never-married men.
So married men ages 25-54 are working even more than the 40 i claimed.
Married men 25-54 probably about ~43 hours a week.

I'm in tech and work 9-6. Managers do a little more, but it'd be rare to be a manager in your 20s anyway.
Sure, not every career leaves time to train at a high level, but most do.
I hope you're both olympians
