It's free now in Rhode Island for a two year degree and they are now trying to push it to four years.
Actually, they offer free tuition for one (1) community college and are proposing to cover the tuition of the last 2 years for two (2) state public colleges for in-state students that are on tract to graduate and maintain a certain GPA and course load based on the article.
Fortunately, I have no student debt and my parents were able to save enough money to study. I always thought a student loan was a terrible thing. I graduated a long time ago and still do not allow myself to take loans for large sums. Sometimes I need extra money and I take a small loan here https://cashflashloans.com/ to make a quick payment.

Counter to your assumption, Pretty sure we all disagree with the AIG, Auto, and Bank Bailouts just as much as we disagree with student loan bailout/forgiveness.
I didn't say anyone "agreed with it." We did it anyways though because we had to prevent the Great Depression 2.0.
Everyone freaks out over the thought of forgiving student loan debt as if it will create a moral crisis without stopping to think if it's something we have to do because once again, relaxed lending standards have created a huge money grab that can't go wrong till it does.
Full disclosure, 59 years old, software engineer, put myself through school. First off, I think we need to do a way better job with public education and fully buy in to the idea that a well educated population not saddled with enormous debt is a net plus for a civilized society.
What I struggle with is the idea that somehow these loans are 'something bad that happened to someone'. Did someone who racked up say, $100k in debt to pursue a major that doesn't pay well or has limited job prospects, every actually consider any of this as it was happening? "Gee, I have $80K in loan debt for a profession i've discovered has very limited prospects. I know, I'll take out YET ANOTHER loan.... and then cry about it after the fact."
Is there no though by these people that, yup, inconvenient as it is to admit it, this is something they did to themselves? I acknowledge we need to take some action here but the sense of entitlement among some of these people is truly breathtaking.

Will Lori Loughlin's kids get tuition forgiveness?
Elizabeth Warren says so.
My art history degree indebtedness will be paid off from tips here at the Waffle House.
Freshen your coffee?
It’s the older generation’s fault for raising tuition so much that working a summer and/or side job would barely make a dent in the debt. And if America could spend $1 trillion on a war in Iraq for nonexistent weapons of mass destruction, why can’t it also spend that amount on helping prepare young Americans to be successful and contributing members of society ?
How does someone run up a debt of $80k? The most expensive in-state tuition is Vermont at $13k per year. Average in-state tuition, nationwide, is $6k. Most people should be getting a degree for about $24k. There are living expenses, but there are also summer jobs, and even part-time jobs during the school year.
I lived with 6 roommates to keep rent under $400 a month, and ate cheaply for about $500 a month. So, total expenses are about $16,800 per year. You should be able to make about $4k-$5k per summer at least. Debt coming out of college should be
The USA is such a rich country. Why do they not have free tuition and books for their citizens? If the US would cease starting wars and invading other countries they could easily pay for those students that wanted a higher education whether at a University or a Vocational Trade school.
A college education is mostly a chance for 18 year olds to mess around for 4-5 years after high school, barely have to study at all, and delay going into the real world. College should only be attended by kids with dreams/aspirations of going into a field that requires some advanced study that simply can't be provided by a high school diploma and a library card. Right now, way over 50% of students are getting degrees in fields that could be completed with at most 2 years of college and more likely 0 years.
Getting a "xyz studies" degree? Get a library card and read about that stuff on your own free time. No need to go to college and spend $100k for a "degree" in that line of study that won't give you any better shot at getting a job out here in the real world with the rest of us.
suck it up buttercup. life is not fair.

free education is fine, but make people take out loans and have repayment based on contingency. if you graduate, get a job in the field you studied in, and maintain that position for x years, we'll agree as a society to get rid of the debt because you're contributing to the general good. if you bail out/quit or do something else you didn't need that degree for, that's on you and the public shouldn't pay your tab so you could 'discover yourself' on their dime
Fortunately, I have no student debt and my parents were able to save enough money to study. I graduated a long time ago and my classmates still pay their loans. Crazy! I nearly dropped my university due to problems with physics. But guys from https://studenterra.com/ helped me a lot. Quality consultation is an essential thing if you have problems with the dissertation and other tasks.
Currently, I am not working anywhere but in an active job search. So recently I really needed the money to close the loan. I started looking for "self-employed personal loans". And found a great service Triceloans. More information can be found here https://triceloans.com/self-employed-personal-loans/ . A service that helped me. They provide loans very quickly and on favorable terms. I recommend from personal experience.
