Some guys would do great, 16m+ easy on the first day. Some would suck, maxxing at 14m. I have done 14+, and I have met some of those guys, and they would all be at least as good as me after 1 day.
I should mention that my numbers are based on only a couple of attempts. The second day with a bit of form, they would all be at at least 18m, with only a few exceptions.
I have experience in this area. Canadian “strongman” I knew picked it up and put it 17+m after I showed a bit of spin technique. He laughed it off, didn’t care, he asked what the point would be of being a shot putter. He wasn’t interested in the few bucks an A-card would have gotten him.
Another thing: some people are naturals, and if there is a strongman shot natural, he would do 20m on the first day. I know because a brother of mine who is very big but completely untrained had an incredible throw on his first day when he came with me as I was practicing. I have posted this story on this board before—I am talking junior record territory. Also had absolutely no interest in competing. If he could launch a monster throw with zero training, I am sure that a “shot natural” strongman would be 20m on the first day.
Lots of real estate between 17m and 22-23m. Shot requires quickness and power. 16lbs is very light for those guys, quickness is the limiting quality IMO. In that type of movement they can be surprisingly quick.
Saw a strongman on the streets of Paris among the micro locals, it was hilarious. I recognized him so went and said hi, turned out he was kind of lost, and nobody could understand his Québécois accent! Gave him directions but forgot to ask him how he managed the flight over.
