That is really annoying to see. I was really looking forward to him destroying the field in Tokyo. I guess we will have to wait. Hopefully he is gets an epic marathon in before the end of the year. The Olympics are next year so hopefully he will get better as the year goes on and next year he can get Gold and hopefully get the WR. It really sucks that we won't get to see him next week.

My hope is that he recovers quickly and does Boston.
Does this really surprise anyone at this point? Sad to see.
Still some really good fields lined up (even with Bekele & Marius Kipserem, a Federico Rosa client, withdrawing). 15 guys went sub 2:10 last year, and with cooperative weather and the high motivation of the Japanese athletes, we could get even more this year
Suguru Osako has got to fancy his chanes for a home victory in that field

You're a sucker if you fell for this again. I'm not letting dough boy play with my emotions anymore.
I guess it's a good thing he's training enough to get a stress fracture? Or just too much extra weight causing more pounding than his bone can handle? (that's what she said)
Bekele's is body is perfect the way he is. He is training well but is just unlucky with the injuries. It's because he doesn't dope. If he doped like most elites then he wouldn't get so many injuries and would always destroy everyone. The article said he has strong motivation so is obviously training hard. I hope he bounces back and maybe does a fast marathon in the fall. He could do Amsterdam again. Tokyo is going to be a really boring snooze fest without him now. Not worth watching.
Not suprised and wasn't hyped for it. I've finally given up on Bekele.

Disappointed to see this. Was also looking forward to this. Hope this doesn’t linger as not much time to even qualify for Olympics at this point.

So he's been injured since Amsterdam, hum...how could he have trained properly for Tokyo in the meantime. Weird...

Maybe felt minor and just never went away.

Dude, when are you going to learn? Bekele is nearing 37 and hasn't really been healthy since 2009! He had a couple good races in the last 10 years, that's it. TEN YEARS this is going on. He is not setting another WR and he will be lucky to ever finish a marathon again. He is not making the Olympic team either. Please review Gebs career ending and see the same ending is ready for Bekele.
I'm not giving up on Bekele without a fight. He is the greatest. He has more left in him. Renato Canova said only a few months ago that he is capable of 2:01:30 and after Amsterdam Jos Hermens said he is just as talented as Kipchoge. If he clears his injuries and gets someone to do his business work he will destroy everyone again.
You seem to be overlooking that just 2.5 years ago he ran 2:03:03 in the Berlin when we all thought he was done.
Always will hold out hope that he comes back. I've just learned to not get worked up with disappointment when he DNS/DNFs.
