Indoor season is not taken all that seriously other than in the US.
Jakob has shown through a 3:31 at 17 an extreme talent that surpasses Tefera, Soget and G Managoi.
Tefera 3:31 indoors WR over EL G age 19
Indoor World Title at age 18
Started running 2 years ago competitively.
Yes he lost to Jakob last year at the U20 championships but neither one won the race.
Jakob has also ran 13:17 but I do not think that surpasses a World Record.
If you’re trying to compare who’s the better runner, the time he started running doesn’t support you at all. You could say maybe he’s got more potential or talent since he started training later, but as of right now the better runner is based on present achievements.
That being said, I think this issue is probably going to be decided outdoors. Jakob has the edge right now in my mind simply because he’s got more credentials; he’s a double European champion and beat Tefera at World Juniors. However, you could argue that he’s not a world champion like Tefera, but then again on the flip side you can argue that indoors is not as competitive as outdoors. Time-wise, they’re obviously very even, but I might give the nod to Tefera since he broke an El G record and Jakob ran his PR in historically-fast Monaco. BUT to play devil’s advocate again, El G’s world record came on an inferior track so who knows what it’s really “worth” on today’s surfaces with a perfect pacemaker like Kejelcha, so maybe Tefera’s run is not as impressive as it sounds.
That kind of back-and-forth debate can go on forever, so really I don’t think there’s a clear “better runner” at the moment, just up to you to decide on your own. Personally, I think Jakob’s the better runner AT THE MOMENT. Indoors though, Tefera gets the W.
