It's might be an interesting discussion to ponder Eliud Kipchoge's situation regarding his future marathons: the main one being "What should (or can) Kipchoge try to do in his next couple marathons?"
My take is, "Poor guy. Next time he lines up at the starting line, do people expect that he tries to run sub 2:01?" Does he even try to duplicate his World Record? Suppose he wins London but "only" runs a 2:05 - is he a "slacker" because he has run 3.5 minutes faster? I mean, of course he's supposed to win! - because nobody's run close to his PR. So does that mean he "loses" while still winning? Suppose he decides he doesn't want to kill himself by trying to run a 2:02 or 2:03, but just goes for the win? Do we dump on him for not running faster?
And if he decides to run Berlin again, does he "lose" if he wins but only runs a 2:04?
Poor guy. After setting a seemingly unbreakable World Record, what is he supposed to do? Best case scenario, he wins London and Berlin to keep his GOAT win streak alive but doesn't run under 2:02 ever again - is he "washed up"? Do we expect him to try for under 2:01? Sheesh!
