Doesn't he have a lifetime ban in all sports from WADA?
The total ban was partially lifted a few years ago. He's forever banned from cycling events. He can compete in a sanctioned event at a national or regional level in a sport other than cycling that does not qualify him to compete in a national championship or international event.
Partially lifted? What for? Someone from USADA has a soft heart for him now? It amazing how easy this chump got off! Contrast his situation with that of Marion Jones who served Federal prison time, lost all of her money & fame and was left bankrupt & destitute. And Armstrong makes out like a bandit. Some justice.
And to hear him years ago on National television saying how crazy it would be for stage 4 cancer survivor to dope and all that BS....ridiculous! (and I believed him back then!!!).

IMO, I would not want a charity I was really involved with to benefit from his athletic effort
This is what some people fail to grasp. One of the main reasons to take a steroid or testosterone, especially for an endurance athlete, is that it increases protein synthesis. You train....your body breaks down....it then supercompensates in order to better handle the next stress. Steroids/testosterone simply make it so you can train harder, longer, and more often. So he was able to do this for a long time. He earned those adaptations. The adaptations of training never fully go away. You never fully detrain, save for a hospital bed.

Back around 2006, he ran 2:46:40 at New York after running 2:59 in Boston. At one point during the triathlon comeback, ended by WADA, he ran something like 1:12-1:13 down in Panama or Key West as part of a half ironman, so even if that distance was not exact, he was getting in shape to run something considerably faster.
+1
That's an insightful post Alan...we need more of that here.

What he did was a lot worse than Pete Rose and Rose is still paying for it. One of the best ever and he won't live to see himself get in the Hall.

If he were to run Boston or NY again - he would have to be drug tested or not allowed to run?

Lance Armstrong is the hero we deserve, but not the one we need right now.

Armstrong made out like a bandit! He lives the life of the rich & famous! Now he wants to be the center of attention again.
He lied through his teeth! He lied while testifying in a hearing! He lied on National television! He made a fool of us all who really believed that a stage 4 cancer survivor who was on death's doorstep would never, ever use PEDs and endanger his health!
He skated BIG TIME while another lying career doper, Marion Jones, gets jail time and is left for ruin financially! I don't think many here posting even remember her.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/01/11/jones.doping/It would be interesting to see where he would have placed if every other rider in the Peloton had not been doping as well. You can put an asterisk after his wins, but you pretty much have to put an asterisk after every other cyclist in the era, as pretty much everyone was doping. Not sure much has changed though.

Did the other riders dope ? Yes, most of them. BUT there are different kinds of doping, and everybody agrees that L.A.'s doping was level 10 compared to the rest of the Peloton (with some being on level 3, some level 2, etc.). Don't get me wrong, I'm not telling it's OK to dope at a lower level, but I want to stress that the argument "he was doped up when he won but everyone else was doping, so it means he was the best anyway" isn't accurate.
And please do not forget he had a whole system of corruption, of bullying and harrassing anyone suggesting he wasn't clean (ask Chrisophe Basson for that matter). Lance Armstrong is known by the insiders to be a pretty awful guy.
most of us would have let all this go if he had just gone away in my opinion. If he was living a quiet modest life even if he kept most of his money I doubt people would care.
3:02 was not even top 3 in his AG for this event, yes he weaved around the field some.
From what I've understand, Lance Armstrong and the US postal team weren't doping as much as the other teams in the tour. Doping is only part of the equation, you still have to put all the other pieces of the puzzle together.
Why would he need to be tested? He is obviously not going to win or remotely place high enough to win money. He only placed fourth in his age at the Austin Marathon and only ran 3:02:13. Sure he qualified to run Boston, should he be banned for running as an age grouper? That's kind of harsh.
Just a reminder Lance has never apologized for what he did and the lives he destroyed in fact he's done the opposite, attacking anyone who would say he's done very bad things for endurance sports.
He's never paid any price in particular, remember this wasn't simple pill popping, he ran a whole blood transfusion lab, booking private jet flights to/from there for others on his team, and was only caught after they almost killed someone by giving them someone else's blood. This was organized crime.
And for someone who is documented/admitted to only have a quarter testicle left, he sure produces an impossible level of testosterone for someone supposedly not doping anymore.
How in the world do you know how the other teams were doping and to what extent? Did you conduct a survey and rank the doping programs?
What I really want to know is, how many gels did he consume? I remember a Runner's World article (and had to look it up to verify) that said in 2006 when he ran his first marathon (New York, 2:59:36) he ate 15 chocolate flavored PowerBar gels.
