Do you have any idea how much it costs - in dollars and time - to become a physician? Do you have any idea how grueling the work can be? Just a fun little anecdote: my son is a physician. He makes about $150k/year, average for his specialty. He did 4 years of college, 4 years of medical school, 3 years of residency and a 1 year fellowship. Undergrad and med school loans total about $250k. During the 4 years of residency/fellowship, he earned $50k/year, working around 80 hours each week.

Doctors will get their salaries cut in half. Doctors have had a great 54 or 55 year run. Medicare/medicaid made medical doctors wealthy. Enlightened nations send elite college students to school for free. Enlightened nations send medical doctors to school for free. In U.S., we had states which offered free tuition. California did away with free college tuition at public universities because then Governor Reagan wanted to get tough on protesters. Join us doctor in supporting free public university tuition for undergraduates and some select individuals for graduate schools/professional schools. Your salary will go back to being the same as certified public accountants as was your salary pre-medicare/pre-medicaid.

Most years I make close to $200k, sometimes more. Doctors deserve to earn at least twice as much as I do, if not much more.

Becoming a physician takes many years of very hard work, and is a position with a huge amount of stress and responsibility. Without adequate compensation, nobody with talent is going to waste their time training for a job that does not pay.

Having doctors become "employees" is the most undesirable side effect of socialized medicine. Once that happens, the highly compensated will be the government management in charge of them. As an engineer working on government programs, I can tell you that pretty much all of the layers of middle management and the government bureaucracy are totally useless people who get in the way of progress and tie everything up with stupid red tape, and they get paid more than any of the people working on the program who actually make things happen. The costs in medicine come from BS like this and not from physicians' salaries. Get rid of the super compensated hospital administrators (e.g. Michelle Obama - worked for $300k plus as a hospital administrator over 10 years ago with no background in medicine) and you will see the costs go away.

You had three days to think of a response to my post and that's the best you can do? You're an engineer. You bring no insight. I thought a medical doctor, a middle to upper level person at a health insurance company or an economist would push back on my statements. Other countries health outcomes are just fine paying for their medical doctors education and paying medical doctors a far lower salary.

The way Cuba counts the life expectancy of their citizens is fraudulent.

Go drink your Micheal Moore koolaid elsewhere. Just ask yourself, if Cuba was so great. Why did so many Cubans flee that nation on rafts to come to America? Sure, America has a lot of problems. But at least you can publicly criticize the U.S. government in America. Let me see some Cubans openly criticize the Cuban government in Cuba.
