Last profile is that of 61yo Joan Benoit-Samuelson. Wants to, 40 years later, finish within 40 minutes of her winning time then. That will be 3.15.15. Her best anywhere is 2.21.21 in Chicago in 1985.
I saw where the site chose who they thought may finish top 16 in order and i compared it to mine. no contest. i chose 10th, 12th, and 17th correct. they chose none. they chose three closer to their placing, i chose 4. wonder how we will compare in london?

The tenth best marathoner in this field, i believe, is Benson Kipruto. Ranked 18th in official rankings on the back of his win in Toronto last year and a 3rd placing in Seoul in 2.07.11. In 2017 Benson was 2nd in another South Korean race and 4th in Praha. He was second in Athens in 2016 and was born in 1991.
This website in an article rating the top ten placegetters, referred back to how they chose Benson to run ninth. Well done.

I chose Felix Kandie above him and was proved right with 4th place.

No American runner, male or female yet? Here she is. Jordan Hasay in my next choice. Didn't run a marathon in 2018 but in 2017 she ran 3rd in both Boston and Chicago, causing this site to rank her second in their top five from the USA and 8th overall in the world. The IAAF ranks her 56th currently and she is 27 years old.
Finished third here, how do you think she will go in Chicago?

Meskerem Assefa is who i predict will win Boston. She is the only runner ranked in the top ten on this site for 2018 [9th]. Assefa is fresh from running her best ever time in winning Frankfurt in October. Earlier last year she won Nagoya and was second in Hong Kong. Her record in 2017 was wins in Houston and Rotterdam, 3rd in Frankfurt. She has run 8 times under 2:26, i wonder how many women could match that? Previous to her six years running marathons she had seven years as a 1500 meter runner with not much in between.
Finishing 4th in Boston was disappointing but was under 2.26 again. After being in Frankfurt the last two years, will she return there or take on another major in the fall?

My fourth choice in the women’s field is Worknesh Degefa. The only question I have is can she back up after second in Dubai in January? Degefa only ran one marathon each of the last two years after arguably being the world’s best half marathoner across 2015 and 2016.
After winning in Boston, will she run for her country in Doha, contesting her third marathon in 9 months after only one in 2017 and 18?

Mary Wacera could be the 10th placed woman, making her debut at the distance. Mary will warm up for it by running the New York Half on March 17, along with Des Linden and Mary Kiplagat. Wacera was previously married to Stanley Wanjiru, who held the half marathon record as an 18yo and won the Olympic marathon in 2008 , but sadly died aged 24. Mary already has a half marathon under her belt this year, finishing 9th in Houston.
that should have said Edna Kiplagat, 11th in the NYC half

Marta Megra may be the 8th finisher among the women. In 2018, Megra was 6th in Paris and 2nd in Toronto. A year previous, she finished 5th in Tokyo. Ultra consistent, has run in 14 marathons since 2013 on 3 continents and finished every time in under 2.32, the last eight under 2.29. Still no Americans in the top 8, maybe next?
Did not run here, preferring a half in Shanghai in late April, finishing 7th. Will she compete again in the fall?

23rd woman may be Christina Vergara-Aleshire, who is 37yo and ranked 414. Has had some impressive drops in her marathon times in the last 5 years culminating in a 2.34.24 last year on a course not recognised for a record, Los Angeles, coming 4th. The previous year was her best time on an official course, Chicago, 15th in 2.38.33.
After disappointing here, she will hope to return to a better time and placing in Chicago.
