Yes, paying someone to carry a bag $1000 per hour is totally shameful. No wonder the airlines charge so much for extra bags. Anyone who thinks this guy was instrumental in his Kuchar's win is delusional.

The point is showing extra gratitude because he won. That caddy is from there and new that course better than Kuchar himself did. Doesn't matter what their initial agreement was, it's called being grateful for someone's help and giving them more than they expected because he won sooooo much. $800,000 after taxes, yeah, that's not too much at all.[/quote]

Ok, so next time you are going to give up 1/8 of your income in a year as a tip, let me know. Yes, 800k is a lot, however if you buy a nice house, car(s), send your kids to private school, etc, then let me know how that works out for you. Yes, I agree with anyone who says he is offering the 50k now purely for the optics. I entirely disagree with the sentiment. 20k (the 5k +15k) for 24 hrs of work in 4 days would have been more than sufficient.

Completely agree. Now that I read the story I'm even more disgusted. The caddie who makes up to $200 on a normal day gets the contractual $4000 + a $1000 tip. Kucher decides on his own he underpaid and offers $15K more. All this before the social media shaming, Then the caddies reaction is shove it I want $50K and people are jumping on Kucher. How ridiculous.

Apparently they pay them 10% due to shaming. Kuchar must be very lucky to always magically have the best caddies. So mush so that he is OK just picking up a random local sometimes.

$200/day is okay but he's not caddying for PGA Tour pros every day. It is the norm on the PGA Tour that caddies get 5% on winnings, 7-8% for a top-10, 10% for a win. Why do you think this is simply internet bullying and that this caddy deserves much much less than any other caddy would have made here? Kuchar was short changing him from the start and the guy probably had no idea until they won and was told anybody else in their shoes would have taken home $100k.

Kuchar is doing just fine. He could have offered a better deal from the start and once he won paid him some real money. Equity and bullying are different.

Fact of the matter is.

If this caddy guy is so great and important then every tour pro will be hiring him and he will get paid BIG TIME. If not then it shows how useless he and all other caddies are.

Your assumption is that he is just as good as the pro tour caddies. Your only proof is that Kuchar won. It is much more likely that Kuchar is good enough that he can pickup any local random and still win.

If this guy really provides services on the same level as others on the pro tour he will be in demand and eventually paid the same.

I caddied in the 70's. At a private country club. Leather bags. Usually they were as heavy or maybe even heavier than me at the time. I would get between $2-$5 tip for 18 holes. The rate was $5 per nine. So, after 18 holes, I could maybe make $15

If the caddie thought he deserved a certain percentage of winnings, why didn’t he have that written into the contract up front? This would have been easier for everyone if he’d made his expectations known beforehand.
