Supposed to race weekend after this one (18th) on the road and the track the 25th. Not sure if it is going to happen though. Wife is pregnant, kids aren't vaccinated, COVID making a resurgence so I may be confined to TTs given our collective risk tolerance.
Was planning on running a TT this weekend anyhow at 1600 or 3000.
Overall I don't think sub 15 is realistic this cycle looking at my last couple of workouts. Feeling a bit stale at this point as well. Hoping for a PR at 3000 and maybe 5000. Will probably take more of an over-distance approach next cycle and reduce the amount of race pace, VO2 max work in favor of longer tempos, fartleks etc.
Did you run a race in the end? Understand if not!
I must say that some of the alternating workouts you were doing, whilst impressive, looked very hard to me. I'm not entirely surprised if you feel a touch burnt out.
Regarding an over distance approach, I may be an outlier, but I've done the same for the past couple of years, and I'll just mention that whilst my endurance has improved massively, I've never yet been able to better the 3000m time I ran when I was focusing on shorter, quicker stuff (not ran a 5000m or 5km race due to Corona). I've not put in a training block where I tried to focus on quicker stuff, though.
