Serious question!
Serious question!
They can be.

They probably could be, but most T&F athletes (i.e. sprinters, jumpers, and throwers) generally prefer temperatures to be much warmer than what is preferred by distance runners.
Where I ran this Saturday it was cold af for indoors
It was also a 160m rubber flat track and it sucked @$$
not sure why it get so hot in these facilities when all they have to do is open the door and lets some cold air in, when the spectators are sweating while sitting on their arse, it's too damn hot even for the sprinters that like it a little warmer than the distance crew
It’s insane. I arrived early at a meet last week. The temp was about 75 degrees inside while it was 20 outside. Imagine what that heat bill is. Regarding the movie theater, be prepared to wear shorts in the winter when they heat it to 72 and wear jeans and a jacket in the summer when they cool it to 68. Guaranteed to be democrats in charge of the thermometer. They scream for energy conservation but have no problem spending an extra $1000 on a Saturday heating an indoor track so they can be comfortable while at the meet.
We had an indoor meet 2 weeks ago. 25 degrees outside, 75 degrees inside on the track, almost exclusively distance events. I think we were heating it to that temperature so that overweight, lazy-eyed, 42 year old women managing the events could wear shorts and t-shirts. It sucked.
It felt like it was about 50 degrees at the Iowa State Classic this weekend
I've raced on multiple indoor tracks that were brisk temps during my race (Notre Dame, ISU, New Mexico). So I don't subscribe to your premise.
The universities that you mentioned are all fiscally responsible Republican run institutions. They think about the greater good. Run an indoor meet at one of the lefty colleges who are all about the moment, and you will what we are talking about.
Hopefully the armory lowers the temps for the indoor marathon

They most certainly are not.
That is why we run track indoors, so that we don't have to run in the cold.
ND is still a catholic university. Iowa State has a very conservative AD and Head coach who crank that heat down.
The rant is justified. I always ran terribly indoors compared to outdoors. The heat and bad air quality is what it was.
Distance runners need to run at ND or ISU in their cool conditions.
We keep our facility setpoint at 68 degrees. It will fluctuate during they day between 66 and 70 as the heat turns on and off during the day. We have found 68 to be a good level; not too cold for sprinters and not too hot for distance runners. We have dropped the temp down to the low 60s for some distance-only nights.
Sounds pretty responsible. You could probably go 1 or 2 degrees cooler yet to save more money.
I was referring to the LSU indoor track
Most modern indoor tracks are kept quite comfortable. The armory is old and heated with steam, which is fairly difficult to control. My house has radiator heat, and once it gets going, the only way to get it to cool down is to turn the thermostat all the way down. I raced at the armory a ton, but all of my indoor PRs are from other facilities.
