CIM ain’t real wrote:
Fauble has a shot. Ward has a shot. Austin is not close. You really need to add 3 minutes to a CIM performance to be realistic. Remember that Tim Ritchie ran faster than Austin in winning CIM in 2017 and couldn’t run anywhere near it in 2018 when put in with the big boys.
But do you think any of them can compete with Walmsley? According to the Ultra fan boys his 64:00 time in Houston is worth at least 2:06, and no American can hang with that right now :)
"Give it a go?" Funny, I have long had the impression that "Ritz" is the guy who, on the right day, could run sub 2: 06.

So the one part in my overly officious email in which I refer to a "simple mistake" and I write "simply" and you miss the obvious irony. Oh my.
Dude, the subject was about Ritzenhein and how much he trains in Michigan thru the winter months. You made it about yourself. Talk about insecurity.
Who gives a sh*t if you went to MSU and have a degree! That had nothing to do with the question. Your father-in-law lives there? SO WHAT! You're one arrogant person, that much is for sure.
You judged another poster because he meant to type fictitious but autocorrect or a simple error chose another word, then you can't take being judge by typing simply instead of simple? You're messed up and probably have zero degree hobby jogger.

He could probably go sub 2:04 if he could train properly, wasn't so fragile and didn't have cramping issues.
Good for Ritz on this race and it sure is a sweet spot distance for him. Though he is about due for a decent marathon. I have seen him around GR in the last month or so and know he does some good hard workouts at the GVSU indoor track. Outdoors has been horrible with ice and deep snow the last couple weeks, so that would be a great way for him to get injured. Whatever it takes to stay healthy I am sure he is trying.
This ranks right up there with the ultrawhiners for most insecure post of the year.

Dear Dr. Warner,
Thanks so much for the tip, pretty similar to what we are doing right now in regard to the heat. It is always interesting to hear anecdotal successes.
All the best,
Brad Hudson

Was Ritz known to overtrain, or just couldn't handle "normal" elite training (over 100mpw with workouts)?
I thought his issue with marathon wasn't fitness or injury, but the fueling/cramping issues.
Dude would have been our best 5k to HM guy ever, but spent the bulk of his career banging his head against the wall trying to be a marathoner.
For whatever reason, his body is great at 10 to 60 minute races.
Even his high 2:07 is a joke compared to 12:56.

He had no finishing kick, that's why he didn't focus on 5K

Yeah, I did that. I made it 24 hrs.

Dump Letsrun for good and keep trying to get that Oly Trials qualifier.
You have LOTS of work to do.

It's sad really. A person like Ritz had all the tools and performed better than most in a fast race - which is kind of the point of it all. Yet, to earn / maintain your livelihood in the sport you have to win championships where you can run a time equivalent to much lesser athletes and be glorified. That glorification by fans - which (again) promotes views / likes / marketing $$ - who like a pedestrian paced race with the best 4/800m runner winning is why many of the best pass on this type of racing.
Sidenote - this is for Male athletes mostly. If you are female you just need to have a greater % of media highlighting your "assets" and you'll get by with even less ability. Anyone that disagrees doesn't realize that the term "sex sells" was around long before the term "social media."
Personally, I blame the (American) fans. They want to be able to fast forward to the last 2 laps and see the entire pack go for the win. It's instant gratification and it's obnoxious. With track still barely clinging to the viewers it has, no one would dare disrupt the format. And that's unfortunate in regard to guys like Ritz who have actually been under-13, but media is forced to shun for reasons that stem from lazy fandom.

Ritz be careful! Don't let history repeat itself!
The point of running is to win races, particularly championships. It’s not to run fast for sixth place in time trials.
I don't think it's fair to say that American fans don't like guys like Ritz or have a tolerance for distance racing. We like it when we see it. But how often do you see it?
When you go to a big marathon and they book a guest speaker in the form of some decent American runner, the person always gets a lot of attention and is loved.
I think the blame goes back to runners' schedules and irregular racing patterns. How can you watch them on TV if they run a few times per year, frequently don't show up to something they announced they'd appear in, and then often do show up in things unannounced or declared within a week of the meet? And look at the Diamond League setup where even if you knew the entire schedule a year in advance, you had no way of confirming any Americans would actually be in the field, let alone specific athletes.
It's not for a lack of love! It's just we have no ability to actually follow this ghost sport.

I think coach JS could coach him sub 60 min at half and 2.05 at marathon if he got the chance.

The new Brooks 4% shoes came through. Good job Ritz!!!
He's got plenty of fast halfs way before carbon springs came out, vaporfly or otherwise:
2015 1:02:07 New York, NY (USA) 15 MAR 2015
2013 1:01:09 New York, NY (USA) 17 MAR 2013
2012 1:00:57 Philadelphia, PA (USA) 16 SEP 2012
2009 1:00:00 Birmingham (GBR) 11 OCT 2009
2008 1:01:38 New York, NY (USA) 28 JUL 2008
The Hyperion Elite is just a carbon spring stuck into a regular Hyperion so it's maybe a 2% shoe at best because it's just EVA but yeah they can definitely ban it too when they ban Vaporflys and all the carbon spring shoes
Look for these when the finish photos are finally posted:

Loser, can't you even figure out how they're cheating ? It's the foam not the plate. Nike is da genius because idiots like you are stuck on the plate when 90% of the power comes from the foam. LOL! Ban the gimmick!
This Montesquieu clown still has not stated what the PhD is.
Probably something worthless like psychology or sociology or communications.
Let's hear why those are worthless. I'm waiting.
Get a PhD so you can teach sociology to students getting a PhD in sociology so they can teach sociology to students ....
Same applies for numerous worthless degrees.
