Grant Fisher - 742 - 3000 !

I see that Flanagan and Fisher are the only Canadians with the world indoor standard for the 3000m. Will they be the Canadian representatives or is Fisher simply focusing on the NCAA this winter?

I don't think he can compete for Canada because he already competed for the US.

Why is that something to celebrate? Aren’t we just celebrating that he is competing for the US regardless if he is from Kenya or Canada. Why are you celebrating that he is Canadian? People normally don’t like when one of their own competes for another country.

Some of the responses on here are ridiculous. Just because folks point out the FACT that Fisher was born in Canada doesn’t mean they aren’t fans of his. These two things are not mutually exclusive. That was a great performance and he is great for the sport—and will be a great addition to the USA team if he makes it. But, it is a fact that he was born in Canada.

I do find it interesting that some choose to refer to American athletes as “foreign born” in certain circumstances (generally when the athlete is not white) and not in other circumstances (generally when the athlete is white).

I hope he knows that there are 2 individuals in the country trying to mess with him and they are both here. The other 20 million track fans love him and won’t call humble Canadian because he doesn’t identify as such. Do you call Ms. Jenner “Bruce” or refer to her as a man or that she was born a man. She doesn’t like that and would not do it. Respect Grant’s wishes by only calling him an American and American born.

It's interesting to see that the US representatives at the 2013 world youth championship 1500m were Blake Haney and Grant Fisher, who both happen to also be Canadians.

Didn't Blake decide to represent Canada in the future?

Respect the individuals’ wishes. He wants to be only referred to as American. Tiger Woods doesn’t like to be called black, so I don’t do it. Many transgenders have had no surgery yet want to be referred to by a different gender. Some people like to be called African American instead of just American. He's never going to compete for Canada for a whole host of reasons. Don't be silly.

Only reason he'd compete for Canada is if he was not good enough to compete for the US. As it is, he is good enough to make the US team, so discussion is over.

He just beat a record held by Rupp - top American collegiate 3000m. Funny that the only high school stars in the last 15 years to amount to anything in the NCAA are Stanford students - Derrick, McGorty, and Fisher. And for some reason everyone says Stanford is a burn-out school.

What is definite and known is that he is Canadian born and a Canadian citizen.
