I was more or less forced out of my job several years ago because a woman I barely even worked with repeatedly told my bosses she was offended by the way I talked. When I asked for specific examples either of things I had said to her or just things I had said in her presence, she did not have a single one but said just the way I talk in general. She then went on to say the tone in my emails was very offensive to her. Again, when asked for specific examples, she said something about my lack of exclamation points and smiley faces. The situation kept escalating and escalating to the point I thought I might be accused of a criminal offense, so I ended up leaving since I was getting less than zero support from my superiors. I found out later that this woman had had major problems with numerous people and at numerous places going back her entire life, contrasted to my nearly squeaky clean record and reputation. Didn't matter. I'm a man, and she's a woman, so I'm in the wrong 100% of the time.
I am fully aware of how outraged many people would be by my following statements, but the truth is, after this experience and several others like it that I either witnessed, heard about from close friends, or experienced again, I would never work with women again if I had that choice, nor would I ever hire a woman. If that sounds terrible to you, consider that the majority of women say they do not want to work for a female boss also, basically citing cattiness, backstabbing, sabotage, and gossip as reasons why.
To the OP, hope you learned from this. This is the world we live in now. All a woman has to do is say you upset her in some way, even if you literally did nothing at all and it's all in her head or even a bold-faced lie, and your job is on the line.
I hope that men learn to protect themselves and each other. If women start being excluded and held accountable (imagine that), perhaps we'd see a bit more sanity from the ones who aren't crazy but thus far have been happy to jump on the MeToo "movement."
