Top six rather
So of the top 6, according to you, major league baseball players of all time, 5 of them ended their careers for the most part prior to the the mid 1930s and never played vs anyone other than white America and the other began his career 68 years ago and retired 45 years ago.
This makes sense to you?

One of the best all-time. Easily best not in the Hall because of ignorant politics.

How many years after MLB lets you bet on the games right at the stadium do they keep Rose out of the Hall of Fame?

If we're talking best players...whole different deal.
Hank Aaron/Willie Mays
Bo Jackson
Roberto Clemente
No pitchers make it because half dont hit, and they play every 4th or 5th day.

Ichiro was my favorite player of all time but he wouldn't crack the top 20 of all-time players.
If I had a choice of 3 players and i had to win 1 game today, I'd pick:
Rose- hate him but he always played to win
Henderson- wanted to win and could do it so many ways
Brett- always gave you his absolute best
umm..Rose and Brett aren't close to top 20 either

Yeh, those are some good pitchers with the exception of Joe Shlabotnik and Clayton Kershaw...
Uh, you forgot one of the most dominating pitchers of the modern era. That would be The Big Unit - Randy Johnson. When he was on, he was "lights out". From 1999-2002, he won 4 consecutive Cy Youngs. His 2002 year was incredible.
Ryan leads in all-time Ks by well over 800. I’m going with Ryan.

Carlton had 4 Cy Young Awards. If I remember correctly, Carlton passed Ryan in strikeout total at one point during their largely concurrent careers but Ryan had a longer career and was more productive at the end. (Carlton should have retired after 1985 but stuck around for 2+ seasons and got released a couple of times which was sad.)
Manny Rivera
Dion Sanders

I'd like to point out that this thread highlights one of the weaknesses of running that is advertised as a strength: subjectivity.
Yes, informed observers can talk about who would have won between, say, Zatopek and Farah given the right conditions, race strategy, etc., but at the end of the day, we have concrete numbers to compare and conversations are pretty short. Probably one of the more important - but seldom cited - reasons why running isn't more popular in the US.
Conversely, take a spork like baseball, where numbers depend on the era, teammates, opposition, league, ask a question as simple as "Who would you say are the three best baseball players of all time?", and the discussion might last for weeks.
I guarantee you that a thread titled "Who would you say are the three best runners of all time?" wouldn't generate much interest - or at least much debate.

honorable mention: hipolito pichardo
Mike Trout - already a hall of famer and has only been in the league for seven full seasons
Barry Bonds - even if he was on steroids, his dominance from 2000 to 2004 is unmatched in MLB history
Alex Rodriguez - 3,000 hits and nearly 700 home runs while also stealing 300 bases and playing the most important position on the diamond for 10 years
christy mathewson and cy young would piss down their legs if they ever saw one of these guys step into a batters box.
Pedro Cerrano. After sorting out his differences with Jobu, this guy really became a Major League force.
