Not sure why but it's just a gut feeling. Feel free to bump this when she wins gold in 2020 and proves me to be an idiot.

Nope, not at all. She's already made an Olympic team, and Cain certainly hasn't. McLaughlin knows she has what it takes. Your gut is connected to a pisspoor head.

Unfortunately, I kind of agree. I sure hope I'm wrong.
Hard to say. Obviously hugely talented, but what was going on in her head at the Olympics (granted, she was in HS at the time) gives me pause. But sports psychologists may already have her turned around.

I mean since she finished the Olympics she went on to finish one of the most dominant HS careers in history and then broke the NCAA record as a Freshman. I think she has most of that stuff figured out.

If I remember to, I will.
A sprinter has a much better chance of making it through the puberty abyss.
People always use Decker as evidence that a prodigy can rise again but Decker was built like a 12 year old until the day she tested positive.

I have a gut feeling you are a pretty sorry excuse for a human being, but I could be wrong.
McLaughlin has a hard edge to her. Seems a little more realistic about the world. Cain had that wide-eyed goofy approach until things began to unravel.

Just because he expressed skepticism in a prodigy's future success? That makes him a bas person? Wow, chill out, dude.
Hope not. She's got it all. She'd be great for the sport.

OP was asking about Mary Cain. No one can say Mary Decker was a flop. Two W.C. gold medals. After 1984 Olympics didn't work out for Decker, she did turn to PED's with no benefit.

His gut is also connected to his arsehole, which is what he's talking from.

Goofy was a little harsh. Mary seemed sweet and had an air of innocence. Nothing wrong with that.
Astute observation. I actually get the same vibe from McLaughlin, and also felt the same about Cain. Two different levels of maturity and approach.
Mary Cain or Mary Decker? wrote:

Referring to Cain possibly bouncing back.
Hopefully Sydney's coaches won't ruin her a la Al Sal.
So young to be so burnt out.

No you are right, more innocence than goofy and it was refreshing, but I think the harshness of life turned on her a bit. A good life lesson to learn however. More valuable than running fast.
