Jordan posted this on her instagram story:
"Easy 23 miler happened to equal marathon pb haha" with a photo of her watch reading 2:20:57.
That's 44 secs per mile slower than her marathon PB pace.
Sounds kind of crazy to me. She's clearly already back in great shape. The question is, is she burning the candle too hot?
23 miles at 6:07 pace is "easy" for Jordan MF Hasay. Discuss.

and no it wasn't a typo, because then the post said, "just need to add 3.2"

It's probably on the faster end of an easy run for her, but it's not too crazy. Except she is just coming back from an injury, so it might not be smart for her to try that right now.

Thanks for the arithmetic lesson. What, exactly, is crazy about it? -
Faster than Alexi Pappas MP ( and mine too).
-
Alexi Pappas will be lucky if she manages that in her next race.

I think Alexi Pappas should work on her 5000 and 10000 first, get under 15 minutes in the 5000 and 31 minutes in the 10000 on a consistent basis then run another Marathon. -

why should she do that? and what makes you think she CAN do that?
Pappas should just try to go run under 2:30 so she can get appearance $$ at various mid-tier marathons, and then do that for the next few years in between olympic and WC races.
As for Hasay, 23 at 6:07 isn't that crazy if your MP is about 5:20s. my MP is more like 5:40s and I did 24mi in 6:25s the other day, so basically the same effort she did. It definitely was "easy" in that it wasn't really a workout and it was relaxed. -
On an Alter-G treadmill, or out in the real world? Wasn't she recently injured?
And she can do anything for 3 minutes!

I can't view instagram stories, but was it on the roads or a treadmill? She's been hawking an alter-g knockoff on IG lately too
-
It’s not a knock off, it’s actually a different concept that is much less expensive and provides for a more natural running form. Lightspeed Lift is the name. If you want to see a knock off, check out the Boost. Now that is a knockoff!

For 23 miles that may be somewhat tough, but maybe OK if you are a pro athlete.
I mean my PB marathon pace is 6:15-ish. Given OK conditions outside (ie not ice on every road or trail like now) 7 minute pace is pretty easy. I have to hold myself back on easy days to run slower than that. Only gets somewhat challenging when you get to double digit miles, otherwise feels the same as 'regular' easy. -
According to Daniels calculator, her easy pace with her Marathon PR should be 6:11-6:34/mile. So it was slightly faster than that.
However, keep in mind Jordan is probably the MOST slow-twitch runner ever. Her PRs of 1500, 3k, 5k and 10k are disgustingly slow in comparison to her Marathon/HM times. No matter which calculator I use (Daniels, Tinman, etc) the times of 15:30 and 31:40 seem to be much worse than her 2:21 marathon. Hell, even Gwen Jorgensen ran faster 5k/10k but is more than 15 mins slower in the full marathon.
Being so extremely on the slow-twitch side muscle-fiber wise makes an easy run at this pace much more manageable for her than for a balanced runner. A fast-twitch runner would have to run considerably slower on her easy days in relation. -
Elite women's marathoners run in the low 220s or high 2teens. A 240 marathon should be moderate for them, which is what most elites mean when they say easy. Maybe Jordan is in 219 shape, but I expect mid to high 220s from her.
-
I think you meant to day "discus" in the thread title ;)
-
Perfect example of how difficult it is to go from 2:40 to 2:20. When you can hold 5:20 pace, 6:03s should be a Sunday jog.
-
My PB marathon pace is 7:20. So this would be like a 23 miler at 8:04, which wouldn't be all that crazy.
But I'm also a low-mileage (40 mpw) 41 year-old dude who weighs probably 65 pounds more than Jordan, so it'd take considerably more out of me than it would her. In other words, I don't think I'd ever do it. -

If that is true then why did Bill Rodgers and others sometimes run 8 minute mile pace?
I think many of us need to redefine what we call Easy!!!
