I think your list should include things that are within the ability of the average person, but that very few people actually accomplish. Running a marathon in every continent is mostly a matter of money. If you have a spare $20-$30 grand, it's not a big deal. It's the same with Mount Everest. If you have enough money, you can get porters to carry you up Mount Everest. Yeah, I know it's not that easy, but you get my point. If you have money, you can make it happen. Here are some suggestions of things that most people never do, yet are probably within the average person's ability if they really applied themselves.
Give a speech to several hundred people.
Write and publish a book.
Invent something. Patent it. (Granted, this probably will cost $10-$20 grand.)
Maybe try reddit or another site that ranks responses to questions. Then you can skip the trolls. F'ing trolls.

I'd say that you're off to a good start. And if you find a Google search to be this agonizing, I'm sure there will be no shortage of difficult things to accomplish today.
- Keep the toilet lid seat from slamming (argh! I HATE that!)
- Don't let any drips fall on the heating element when you pull out the coffee pot (So. hard.)
- Get close enough to the ticket machine at the parking garage so you don't have to take off your seat belt (Stop honking at me! I can do this!)
And that just gets you to the office, where the whole nightmare of indentation and line spacing in your Word docs begins...

Because this was your first post on the thread, and you didn't ask one.
At age 100:
walk at least a mile a day;
keep yourself strong, fit and flexible;
live independently and take good care of yourself;
have one or more very close friends to spend time with;
have a healthy routine of things that you do on an ongoing basis.

Post a 600pt score in the new Army Combat Fitness Test. It hasn’t been done yet after well over 1000 soldiers have taken it.

Didn't read all of it but the 2 mile run was about 20 minutes. Seriously? Is the rest of it that lame?
Thru hike the Appalachian Trail. Not sure how they generate the statistics, but per Backpacker magazine the success rate is only 29%

You should read better. The max score is 12:45, the minimum on this age and gender neutral test is 21:00. Yes, for a population of runners here it’s very lame. No one is failing this test.
Here let me help you, max scores and rest between events:
3 Rep Trap Bar Deadlift: 340lbs (not hard for anyone who lifts), 2min rest
Backwards 10lb Med Ball Throw, 13.5m. That’s far, 3min rest
Hand Release Push-up, 70 reps in 2 min, pretty hard, 3min rest
Sprint/Drag/Carry: 1:40, a lot more difficult than you would think for a 10x25m shuttle, but there are pretty decent loads involved, 4min rest
Leg Tuck, 20 reps, 5min rest
2mi: 12:45, easy but you’re hammered after the previous events
The Hand Release Push-up and the Backwards Med Ball throw are hardest to max on their own. Being able to max the DL and the Run is also not easy since they are polar opposite.
I challenge you to find some equipment and attempt the test and see how you score.

Fair enough, Alan. One question for you ... I know you are in the military but not sure which branch. The army does workouts in Memorial Park where I run. When they do situps, why do they hold the legs of the one doing them? Do they now know that the abs should be doing all the work? When they hold the legs the hip flexors come into play. I really can't believe they still do that. Thanks for your service!
And the minimums:
DL: 140lb
Ball Throw: 4.6m
HRP: 10, yep 10
SDC: 3:45
LTK: 1....yep 1
Run: 21:07....yep a very fast walk for some
I’ve seen seasoned soldiers fail the ball throw and the leg tuck, that’s about it. New soldiers could easily fail the run, I’ve seen a couple trainees “run” 24min for the 2mi.
Alan
Because the Army is very slow to come around to modern thinking in certain areas.....hence we still have the airborne. They were still running in combat boots until the 80s.
Alan
They know sit-ups are bad for the lower back but they still do them because they are required on th current PT Test. This new one doesn’t take effect until Oct 2020.
