There are homeless people in the waiting area at Bradley Terminal. Every time I go there (3 or 4 times a year), I see them sitting in the seats by the elevators. I didn't notice them until about 10 years ago when a friend from Uganda pointed them out to me. As for the other terminals, I have never seen any homeless.

A lot of those people you refer to probably served their country. Have a bit of respect. There may be garbage in that terminal at your time of flying, but I suspect you're looking in the wrong direction.
Surprised they don't have storage lockers. Check your bags in. Use trunky for your hand luggage. Cross train by scooting around the airport.
Rent a car. Put luggage in boot. Run around car park.
Just fly business class. Then you can hang out in the lounge and not have to look at the garbage.
those weren't homeless people...those were unpaid air traffic control workers....
I agree with Zuck, but if you really have to run... It’s been a while, but I have done this coming in from Asia into LAX with layovers. There is a gym right next to a hotel with a free shuttle (think it’s 24 hour fitness, don’t remember the hotel maybe the Crowne Plaza - but just Google it) . Take the shuttle to the hotel, get off and cross the street to the gym and pay your $20 fee or whatever it is. Put your stuff in a gym locker, run on a treadmill, shower, and go back to the airport.
3 hours might be cutting it too close. Four hours or more at any major airport should allow you to rent a car, take it wherever you want to work out as well as store your luggage in it while you’re running.

That's what I was thinking. You can take a taxi or Uber to the south side of the airport..Grand Ave or Imperial Highway till they run into the beach, then run along the waterfront path. Simple enough. And I beileve in the El Segundo area they have those showers outside for the beach users to get the sand off..that would work. But you'd have the logistics of having a spare change of clothes with you.
And really, I don't think there is enough time to leave, run, change, back through security etc. I've tried this on a few trips with three hour laykvers and it's tough to fit in.

On a 10 hr layover it would be nice to get out maybe even run, but as I mentoned above, there are no storage lockers at LAX as there are at many other airports abroad.
Since there are no lockers...If there is a hotel close enough, perhaps you could have them hold your bags for an hour... at concierge , as if you checked out but aren’t leaving yet. Then after your 1 hour run, get your bags and semi wash up/towel off and change in the bathroom.
I did this semi shower at the Phoenix airport after running 45 minutes during a 3-hour or so layover. It was pre 911 (December 1994), and I was with my dad, so he watched the bags.
We later arrived in Omaha and it was dark, cold, and windy..... and I was sure glad I already did my run.
Does LAX have a gym?
Some airports do - mine has a big chain gym in the front (before security) but it's something.

Yeahhh post 9/11 and in LA, hotels are not just going to watch your bags (unless they probably verify you were staying there).
Honestly with a 3 hour layover, that’s too many logistics to have to deal with to get a run in. Would probably just take a day off and walk around the terminals a lot for exercise.
You could go to the luggage claim section and use one of the carousels as a faux treadmill. You’d have to deal with pieces of luggage as they come around though.
The smart runner incorporates rest and relaxation. So, the answer is yes, or no, depending on whether a run will help you relax, or will it just be an exercise in obsessive-compulsive behavior?
Depending on where you arrive from(also on luck) it might take about an hour or more to exit the terminal. JFK in New York has consistently long lines to border control, but LAX is random and can be worse at that. What's more, once I had to slowly move in a line for about 40 minutes after baggage claim just to the exit, not even sure what's the reason for that - they barely do any control after baggage claim.
Anyway I'd rather walk to In-N-Out on Sepulveda and grab a 'four by four' burger if I had a 3 hour connection in LAX. Unless you're flying from elsewhere in California and can have In-N-Out any time you want, that's better than some jogging.
fwiw i ran up and down a short terminal (200m?) at Laguardia for 45 minutes recently. There was a 30m ramp that i would sprint up at one end. I had my bag about halfway where I could keep an eye on it. Nobody said or did anything. I am grateful for that bit of fun the universe granted me.
Every time I fly into/out of Philadelphia's airport, I see homeless people sleeping in the areas outside of security -- halls leading toward check-in counters, security, baggage claim. I don't know how often airport personnel roust them and move them along, but whenever I see them, they look like they've been there a while. And they are clearly not passengers waiting out a long layover.

Ha ha, this is the answer. Lots of luggage = hurdles, not much = steeplechase, none = flat easy run. See if you can find the speed control.
no
go to the in-n-out burger there in el segundo
walkable

Depending on terminal this might be as close than Sepulveda one, but does it have planes flying right over your head?
Anyway I'm glad we agree on the fact In-N-Out beats jogging for LAX connection

No not a troll -get your facts straight. There were many bums in the waiting area by check in sitting in the chairs. Some were on the floor. When you have a 10 hr layover and have to go between airlines, you are stuck in this waiting area until check in for your next flight opens. This is before security. This is where the garbage has gathered. It was not an issue when I came through in the summer. It was awful December -January. I asked a woman at the counter why the police do nothing and the bums are allowed in. SHe said it has become a problem over the past year and they are afraid of being called out for discrimination if they boot them. I call BS. This is a public health and safety issue! The terminal is not a bloody homeless shelter!
Probably more concerning than the homeless are the scammers. Lots of "do you need a ride" type guys without a permit. Con artists seeing a fresh tourist off the flight and willing to help them out.
Pick pockets galore.
Stay inside the terminal if you don't have to switch, good restaurants and bars, chill.
3 hours in and out of LAX? could be a lot longer if you hit traffic.
Just jog in place at your gate with some frantic arm and leg pumping for 5 minutes x5 with 1 minute of less frantic arm and leg pumping in between. It’d probably still be faster than my long runs.
