Running-wise, whose career would you rather have, if you had to make that decision right now?

Rupp is superior to Rodgers in every way.
Rodgers' career but making Rupp money.
Rupp has 2 Olympic medals but Rodgers probably had more fun and you can't knock all the wins at Boston and NYC. World XC podium as well. That's a pretty big deal.
I have zero suspecisions about Bill Rodgers training. I have great suspecisions about Rupp. Bill had a much, much more interesting story, too.

How do you know who had more fun?

Is "suspecisions" a real word?
Definitely Bill. He is an all time legend and still popular today. Rupp will disappear when he retires.
Bill can still make a living off his fame today. Rupp will not be able to do that for a variety of reasons.

Obviously you cannot know if one person had more fun than another. But you can look at what each person is doing and decide which one of their lives seems like it be more fun for you. I immediately decided Rodgers was my answer. To me ,Rupp's life looks like hell on earth with all the high tech interventions and medical observations and treatments that go with them, the questions about my integrity and the uncertainty I, and again this is my reaction, I'd have as to how much of my success was my own and how much of it was because it was manufactured for me.
I would take Bill Rodgers career from a competitive standpoint. From a financial standpoint, I would take Rupp. Rodgers was competitive in over 40 marathons with 4 wins at Boston and 4 in NY. The only big downer was the 1980 Olympic boycott. Rodgers was in his prime in 1980 and the race was his to lose.
But Rupp is certainly making better money. Rodgers had to race his legs off. Back then, there was a big debate whether you could be a top pro without having a full time job. Rodgers was one of the first to be able to train full time and make a living off his prize winnings and endorsements. But he had to race a lot and did not have any fancy training facilities or a staff of physios, trainers, etc.
In 1983 Rodgers made $600 000. Just saying.
I’d rather the career of a straight runner.
I'd rather have Galen Rupp's career, except I'd have more fun with it and be less of a robot.
Just base off of their form, I would choose Rodgers. Rupp form makes me cringe, it looks so unnatural and probably caused his injury. Rodgers form was just so elegant and effortless. When running in races it looked as if he was just floating along.
Rodgers for sure. I wouldn't want the career of a nit-wit toady for drug cheat AlSal.
Everyone saying they'd rather have Rodgers' career is full of sh*t. Rupp is better in just about every category. Put their accomplishments side by side without names attached and everyone is choosing Rupp.
I know you hate him but give me a break wrote:

Bill Rodgers was also a special ed Teacher. Advantage Rodgers.
Billy R - personable, racing god, approachable, still loved today and always will be
Rupp - opposite of all the above
Rodgers', because he isn't tainted by serious suspicions of unethical activity.
Not even a thought. 2x oly medals, marathon major win, and multiple AR's.
