I'm going on a year now of 10 hours of work a week out of 40. I'm amazed my boss hasn't noticed. Maybe they are too busy to not delegate tasks. So hard to do nothing, but being in the office and replying to a few emails is enough. I'm trying to switch jobs due to boredom but I guess the better question is how long would someone would want to continue that. It's just so hard to find a job that pays as well with the benefits so figure I'll ride it out til that comes along. Eventually I need to improve resume, so doing nothing is not a good long term plan.
I lasted about 3 months of doing that. I seriously couldn't stand trying to make myself look busy. I don't know how people do this all day..other than just to collect a paycheck.
I was brought on board to help with the second phase of this Microsoft CRM to Salesforce transition our company was doing. Went from the development side of the house to a different development side of the house...lol. Huge undertaking for the second part which basically involved putting all of our customer service employees in Salesforce (Hooray Service Cloud), rolling out e-commerce and online ordering via Salesforce (APIs and all) and then training on everything including workflows. After this phase of the project went out and a few months of fine tuning it, I literally worked probably 20% of the day. Did this for about 3 months and went to my boss and said "I'd like to go back to my old team" and explained why. She totally understood and was thankful for me coming to her with it, so I went back to my old team. They hired someone to basically do all the menial updates and tasks that were being asked to do at a much lower salary than what I was making. Win-win.
