Ok lets have a bit of common sense here, in Kenya you have the perfect enviroment to produce great distance runners, altitude, beautiful scenery, soft surfaces to train on, huge weight of numbers and a strong work ethic. In terms of triathlons, its fairly vident that Africans are not the worlds greatest swimmers, ther are little or no facilities, therefore you will not get good triathletes, you will also have very few well surfaced roads in the countryside so cycle racing is out. The raeson most Kenyans are attracted to running is the fact that little or no equipment is required, the average wage is very low and most are concentrating on surviving rather than popping out to buy a new road bike.
As for Mr Olympia and Worlds Strongest man, get a grip, those guys aren't fit, they are burger munching convoy drivers drinking 20 beers a night and up to the eyeballs on steroids.
The infastructure for most sports is not yet in place in Kenya , running is probably the simplest, most natural and cheapest one to put in place, thats why we are beginning to see the emergence of countries like Uganda in the WXC champs, they are actually from many of the same tribes as the Kenyans and are only seperated by Colonial borders set up by the British.
The reasons the west Africans and consequently the West Indians do not make good athleets is because they are physically different, they are stocky, tend to be shorter and heavier and they are also raised at sea level. Most of the west Indian populations were originally west african slaves so that clears that up. They do not have the benefits of the Rift Valley and its altitude.
In terms of India, that is probably a social thing, religion plays a large part in society, they also do not have the benefit of several thousand years of trekking long distances on foot, they also do not have the best enviroment. I am sure there will emerge great distance runners from some of the other developing nations, maybe they will come from the mountain ranges of the Himalayas or from Southern Asia, I don't know, but I don't think they will come from the west.
Our lifestyle is too easy, our food too processed, our lives are too stressful and complicated and ruled by money. Its possible to survive in Kenya without ANY money, living in a community, that isn'tt possible in the west, you need to pay the rent and the bills.
