I literally never ... ever ... ever said I was. Jesus, people here are so hostile. Pretty sure there was a thread about that not too long ago, y’all need to go chill out and smoke a doobie or something, maybe I would be a 14:xx guy if I didn’t smoke so much of that, who knows?
?
Now the OP is making is excuses for his crappy 5k PR.
This "20:00 min." guy trains, loves the sport and I'm sure supports running. He's a fan and is fit and buys run gear. We need as many of him as possible. He is not a professional. Save your comments for the U.S. male runners who are professional and are running marathon times the would be good 40 years ago. Hold professionals runners to the higher standard.
OP: How old is the guy? If he's 25, then I agree that he's pretty slow. I know, because I'm slow, but if I had trained like that in my 20s I would have been way under 20 for 5K.
If he's 45, it's a whole different story.
I am a 44 year old hobby runner (last year 5K PB 18:20) training 3 times a week, total of about 20 mpw (less than 3 hours total).
I was blown away when my hairdresser’s mom while washing my air told me she runs 5 times a week.
She wakes up at 6 am, puts on her running clothes and runs for an hour.
She’s slightly overweight and age about 65-70. I’m sure she’s a slow runner.
Nevertheless, I was very impressed by her dedication to running.
What do you think the median time is for all 5k races in the usa?
also slow, but old too wrote:

He is in his mid 30s, he won his age group.
Also may I add that I am absolutely laughing my ASS off at all the 19 minute guys probably taking it personally and getting p*ssed at me in this thread. I think you all misunderstand me, I am not slagging this guy or his passions, I respect them but if I see somebody doing intervals at what looks like 5-6 minute pace on a regular basis, I would expect them to be competition, not beat them by several minutes. I am not saying that he is slow in general, I am saying he is slow relative to his training. I actually wouldn’t consider somebody slow until they are 23 minutes + seeing as probably only about 10% of people in most races break 23 minutes. In general, I actually consider this guy fit amd fast and would actually think about training with him once in a while, he is certainly faster than anybody else on the rec sports league teams that I know who all dished out times in the 21:00 to 25:00 range.

Probably 30 minutes
.
You do not respect him, nor do you respect his passion. Pro tip #3: Don't be a liar.

Runners: Boo-hoo, nobody cares about pro running or wants to watch it on television. Coverage of our sport sucks. Even solid runners get no respect or options to follow their dreams after college. This a great sport but nobody notices.
Runners: Hobby joggers suck. Marathon participants suck. People who run over 20 minutes for 5K despite regular training are pathetic. Nobody appreciates what it's like to run 90 miles a week -- it's really something special and everyone else is an a-hole.
Jeez.
I am definitely a slow runner who still takes running and training seriously. I used to be half way decent, but broke my leg a few years ago and never fully got my speed back. But I love running, usually run 7 days a week, and yes, sometimes double. I average about 50 to 60 miles a week and I am 56 years old. I still love to test myself in races, plus I enjoy hanging out with my running friends afterwards. I think the post-race breakfast with friends is one of the great joys of life!
Rojo is back in training.
guy: *talks about running in a running event*
OP: is this dude autistic?

Beats sitting on your butt all weekend watching tube sports.
Just about everyone that posts on this site.
Some guys just don't get that race day boost.
When training, there's no chance I do a 18 minute 5K, I'll give up halfway in, it's just too hard.
Give me a parkrun, and I'm in low 17s
Give me a serious race, and taper and I'm high 16s.
I routinely see guys on Strava who do things in training that I know I can't do. Like a 20-miler starting at 7 minutes per mile and topped off with 8 miles at 6:00 per mile. And then their 'all-time PRs' section on Strava lists marathon as 2:50-ish, several minutes slower than me.
At first I thought they overtrain, but it can hardly be overtraining if they can keep doing it for months. So I guess they just don't get any toughness boost from the actual race day.
I always wonder what these guys could do if they put all that effort into something they're good at. Just seems like so much wasted time with so little to show for it. For me the enjoyment in running is competing and getting faster. If I ever lose that then it's time to retire from racing and just run for fun. Where is the enjoyment if you're training almost full time and still this slow?

THIS. This is a worthless thread to start except to self-indulgently, anonymously, and disingenuously look down on others. Letsrun, the pathetic running troll's heaven.
