Looks like he did his 15-mile double yesterday on the roads. How far did the haters run on their treadmills yesterday?

Looks like he learned a lesson in nutting up. He must read letsrun.
Personally I did 17 in the snow today. Not even on roads either.
Not going to bother with the whole thread, but two observations
1) How does a kid that has trouble breaking 2:15 for the 800 and 5:00 in the mile run a 15:40/33:30?
2) If it was his "easy" day, why is he shoveling the track to do it? Go do your 20 minutes around a parking lot.

Then please don't reply.
Why? He nailed it without even having to read the thread. He can use that saved time to shovel the track for his easy run.
Yeah, this is dumb.

That's lame Rojo. Really, really f-ing lame.
Real badass runners dont take videos of themselves and post it on the internet to show how tough they are. Real runners dont even shovel a path to run on like that pansy in the videl.
What does a real runner do when it snows? He (or she) puts on his clothes just like any other day, then goes out and runs in the quiet of the soft snow. When you're done you brush the frozen ice off your face and change into dry clothes and wait until your Big Johnson warms up before you take a shower.
If you are compelled to post videos of your epic ordinariness you aren't the badass you think you are.

I'm not a hater as I snoveled my share of snow the last couple days but I did do 14.55 miles on the treadmill yesteday in 2 runs . The last included 14 X one minute hard with two minutes easy recovery. The only run not on a treadmill the last 2.5 months was a 27 mile trail run!!

I just ran on the roads - most were plowed - no big deal.
His Strava says he did most of his run on the roads, and he shoveled the track to clear it for track workouts later this week. The coach just recorded him finishing his run on the track.
If you dont mind me saying, this is more fake news from you American media fellows.
What do you think we do up here in Canada, eh? We dont have indoor tracks or treadmills at my school.
Except shoveling off the track is a team effort so it doesnt take but 20 minutes. We usually sing while we do it.
Ooh, sorry to sound harsh.
Ok to answer some questions. Ryan does not like the treadmill so he doesn't use it. It makes it a bit of challenge to coach but he and I work it out. Other guys on the team use treadmills but in general we all prefer to be outside.
We do not have field house - I thought that was funny - we do have 6 treadmills set aside for track use and we practice throughout the day.
He not only doesn't mine shoveling, he actually likes to do it. We have cleared the track as a team in the past and will again.
He did not shovel the track to do his easy run. He cleared lane one for an anticipated progressive tempo run we wanted to get done this week. He did it knowing there would be some snow blow back but we knew the forecast was sunny and with a little more work lane one is clear for everyone.
He did his 7 mile progression run from 5:42 to 5:08 pace and felt good. It was better than we hoped. Had the track not been clear we would have done an out and back on the road. By the way, Mansfield is very hilly and we have one flat road to do these things on and it is very busy but it does have a wide shoulder.
Several have asked how does he run 15:11 and only run 2:10 for the 800 well I would like to know too. He just broke 60 this year in a 400. He doesn’t have a lot of leg speed but it is getting better. Also, we don’t race short things with him much, instead spending time to rep work and racing less.
He has gradually gotten better each year. He works hard and I have had to adapt my own coaching to help him but we have learned together. Coaches can learn as much from their athletes as athletes can from their coach.
At the end of the day we have some high goals for him and we are doing what we think is best to get there. You can either cheer that or ignore it. Your choice but adverse opinions aren’t really going to slow us down.
So all the best to all of you and follow Ryan on Strava – you won’t be bored.
Wouldn't shoveling snow for two hours to get an easy run in be counter intuitive? No recovery.
Also his coach is an idiot for not only allowing this but encouraging and promoting it. No wonder the kid can't break 2 in an 800. Just does mindless labor too tired too improve.

Please read the thread as it's been explained 2498789 times that he shoveled the track to do a track workout, not an easy run. Thank you.
He could have used those two hours of work to do something useful, but instead he did that.
But, maybe he enjoyed doing it. In that case, more power to you. (How easy would it be to damage the track, I wonder?)
Might be the first time I agree with Malmo but he is spot on here.

That makes even less than. The workout scheduled a day or two later? The roads will be cleared by that time. Most runners have a neighborhood road loop somewhere for intervals when the track is snow covered.
Well said Coach.

I don't get why so many runners are so against the treadmill. Especially here on letsrun.
If it is good enough for Rupp and Farah then it is definitely good enough for you. Whoever you happen to be. Absolutely no excuses otherwise. There is simply no reason not to use the treadmill.
Mo and Galen might be fast, but they are not tough. Not in the sense many people here understand toughness.
No one here can claim they are faster than Mo and Galen, but they can claim they are tougher. So being a badass becomes more important than being fast. That way, they can feel superior to Mo and Galen.
That's why they don't use treadmill. Their goal is not getting faster. Their goals bragging about their toughness. Running on a treadmill on a snowy day isn't just blue collar to them.

Nine years total between HS and college, and I lived in areas where it snowed more days that it did not.
3,000 might be high for that span of time, but I don't think it is for 1979 to now.
Wow, so it snowed 91% of days for 9 years? That's amazing. Was this during the pleistocene ice age?
What did I just say, dumbazz?
Shoveling a little snow is a good allaround body workout, and what we all did as kids, shoveling the lake to play hockey or soccer or speedskate, shoveling the downhill road to speedrace downhill on skis or foot or by sleigh, nothing special, be inspired sure, but it is just living in north.

You said it might have snowed 3,000 days in a span of 9 years. Since 9 years is only 3,285 days, that makes 91%. I think this was true during the last Ice Age. Or, maybe you were stationed in Antarctica? Either way, that's really amazing!
