Ever hear of a treadmill dude?
Guy needs a hot girlfriend to shovel it for him. Just my 2 cents.

What's next, another Walmsley or Affolder post? Go eat some hot dogs.
Not exactly.
If I shoveled a track just to run when I was in high school or college, I would have shoveled a 400 meter track probably about 3,000 times. This is just stupid.

I would have shoveled a 440 yard track. I do remember my coach opening up the elementary school hallway so I could do laps when the temp was below 0. Hallway was about 120 feet with a stairway at each end to go to the second floor. Even got my hill work in!!
This was so last year - and probably the year before too. Nothing new here. Just more dumb fudgery. Just run in the snow like a big boy or go to a gym.
Has anyone wondered why it took him TWO HOURS to make one pass around a track with a shovel?

Runners are skinny and weak.
Most AD's would be pissed to see you craping the track with a shovel. I have seen it first hand.
And furthermore, just run down a side road that has already been driven on or plowed a little bit. Makes no sense what he did.

That's lame Rojo. Really, really f-ing lame.
Real badass runners dont take videos of themselves and post it on the internet to show how tough they are. Real runners dont even shovel a path to run on like that pansy in the videl.
What does a real runner do when it snows? He (or she) puts on his clothes just like any other day, then goes out and runs in the quiet of the soft snow. When you're done you brush the frozen ice off your face and change into dry clothes and wait until your Big Johnson warms up before you take a shower.
If you are compelled to post videos of your epic ordinariness you aren't the badass you think you are.
It should have been clear to you that he did not take a video of himself.
Another thing you should have thought of: he likely has track workouts coming up. It's very probable that he shoveled the track primarily so he could do those track workouts later.
Not in a trillion years I would of thought of that. Are you OCD, or are you a competitive athlete?
Your precious little upcoming workout means squat in the big picture. You can be forgiven I you don't understand that, but if your coach doesn't understand, or have the experience or knowledge then he's not qualified to guide you. A training schedule isn't a sacrosanct tablet of stone not meant to be broken -- it is a general plan from here to there.
My goodness this is freaking simple: Looks like its snowing out. What do we do? Go out for an easy run. What about the track workout on Thursday? We'll know on Thursday what we'll do on Thursday. Is Big Mother Hill plowed? Yeah. OK for now lets plan on running Big Mother Hill then. What if it snows again. Then we'll figure it out sweetheart. Your mascara is running, clean your face.
Was that so difficult to figure out?

Actually, dumb.
Take to the dreadmill even though it sucks a** and then spend those two hours you wasted shoveling snow in the gym doing a legitimate core workout - no shoveling snow is not the same as a solid session in the gym.
This.
Aside from getting "LetsRun famous" the option of the treadmill would be superior.

How long were you in school?
why not run behind a plow?
Nine years total between HS and college, and I lived in areas where it snowed more days that it did not.
3,000 might be high for that span of time, but I don't think it is for 1979 to now.

Wow, so it snowed 91% of days for 9 years? That's amazing. Was this during the pleistocene ice age?

The concept is cool, but these days with treadmills available literally everywhere, it is pretty dumb to spend two hours in the cold shovelling snow. Guarantee the kid has tons of muscle soreness in a few days from shovelling for two hours - that alone will impair his training for while.
He also risks injury being out there in the cold shovelling that much snow.
Lastly, this was an easy day apparently - why go to so much risky physical effort to get in a recovery day - hit the pool and water run, ride the indoor bike, treadmill, go to a local apartment building and run stairs. Tons of options that don't result in some really slow slog in cold weather that will hurt, not help training.
I just ran on the roads - most were plowed - no big deal.
The track is very hard when frozen like that. Treadmill would definitely be more forgiving on the legs.
Absolutely no point in running easy miles around a track at any time of the year.
I don't get why so many runners are so against the treadmill. Especially here on letsrun.
If it is good enough for Rupp and Farah then it is definitely good enough for you. Whoever you happen to be. Absolutely no excuses otherwise. There is simply no reason not to use the treadmill.
