and why do you all think he has no chance in the trials? a 1:04 half puts him at 2:14. as he's an ultrarunner and also the best at ultrarunning in the world, he probably has a better performance the longer the distance... that makes a 2:13 realistic and would have placed him 4th in the 2016 trials.
As if Houston and the 2016 trials were the same conditions?

Plus there's a quicker recovery from a half, even a hard effort, and he needs recover quickly and get back to his day job of ultrarunning.

No, that’s not what they’re doing. They simply said it’s a good time. 1:04 is a good time. Period. The poster said nothing more and you wanna write a novel about Jim for no reason. Nobody is saying he’s gonna win the Olympic marathoner. It’s cool to see an ultra guy hit the OTQ. That’s it. Period.

I'm impressed with the half marathon time even though many ran faster because he's an ultrarunner. It makes me eager to see what he does at Comrades against some of the best road ultra guys. We already know he's one of the world's best at 50k to 100 miles on runnable hilly trails . He won't be the fastest shorter distance guy in that race just like Max wasn't when he ran. But, he's more accomplished than Max on the trails.

Yeah rite . If Jimmy ran a 2:13 in a legit race like the trials and placed top 10 he might get tested though. Has he ever been tested? Probably not even at UTMB when he only got 5th and then DNFed this year

Working hard and taking PEDs are not mutually exclusive. In fact many PEDs such as steroids or even EPO allow athletes to work even harder (through better recovery etc etc).
The thing I can’t wrap my head around is why everyone trusts and is excited for a guy who got kicked out of the Air Force with a dishonorable discharge for cheating and trying to cover it up (note: others were involved in that scandal, but didn’t receive the same level of punishment).
The guy made a huge jump in performance pretty quickly in the ultra world after living on the ropes for a bit in Flagstaff. Given the demonstrated willingness and ethical rationalization to cheat, I’m sadly skeptical.
