2019 London Marathon fields are out and are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! Field even includes Americans Huddle, Sisson and Derrick.

This list is based on PRs and proximity to today's date. Fast is not too fast if it's 18 months ago.

Interesting to see what Huddle and Kieffer do on a traditionally fast course.

Think this could be the race that Huddle nails the marathon.

They've made an error putting Brett Robinson down as a debut,he recently ran a Japanese marathon and dropped out at 35k.

I think this is much more appropriate & realistic. I think all 3 of them could reach a little higher.

Sub-2:10 isn’t out of the question. Levins looked cozy running 2:09-low & he went 27:07 for 10k versus Derrick’s 27-mid (30ish). Derrick had a nice debut in Chicago in a year it went out slow and then he ran solidly at NYC which isn’t a fast course. I say 2:10ish. Wouldn’t be surprised if he goes out in 1:05. That could result in a 2:11-13 but I disagree with whatever brojo didn’t think there would be company running 2:10ish. That’s just not true. London usually has a 1:05ish pace group and usually is a race where 2:11-15 guys try for 2:09:59. He should have company through 25-30k with pacers and competitors. It’s set up right to be fast. Hopefully we see more Americans try London in the future. Derrick will be a good case study. I think if all the 2:12-15 guys ran London we’d see a lot of 2:10-11 runs.

I speculated a while ago that Huddle and Sisson would end up here and both made good calls to go for a fast time. This might be Huddle’s one shot to come close to the AR. I think sub-2:22 is the goal. Her half marathon makes me think 2:21ish is about right. Sisson probably a couple minutes behind her but I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s closer to a minute behind her If they both have good races and go 2:20 and 2:21 or something.

A name I saw on the field list that I cannot recall hearing before is Henryk Szost of Poland, turning 37 this year, ran a best of 2:07:39 in 2012, and ran sub 2:10 in four different years, starting in 2011 and 29. His time is not only among the best European times ever, but he did it on a set of pr's at lower distances that do not come close to those of Parker Stinson, Chris Derrick, and a host of other Americans who have not yet beaten 2:11 or 2:12. He seems to have figured something out at some point that most of our leading marathoners cannot figure out, despite their vastly superior lower distance credentials.

Derrick won't win it this time but he has a good shot a breaking 2:10. If Chris Derrick runs by kilometres he'll run between 2:06-2:08. If he runs by miles he'll run between 2:09-2:11.

Agree. Was surprised to see how that was more or less presented as fact. The US women's list showed me many women grabbed their PR in their early to mid-30s. I think it's one of her last shots to chase a truly last time before the preview came up but she will certainly have a couple more opportunities. If she hits a 2:20-22, I would expect her to be contempt and just run NYC/Boston every cycle after the Olympics.

And, of course, it wouldn't be a true LRC preview if you didn't slip in "American born" with Hall's marathon times. I still don't understand your insistence to include it. You go out of your way to do so when it adds zero value to your article other than highlighting how much you love white runners.

I would guess it has to do something with when the athlete declared or confirmed entry into the race.

I dunno. The article said “it could be” and “it might be” so I miss where it is presented as fact. I do agree with the article that it may in fact be her last best chance given her age and the timeline to the Olympics.

It turns out that the London Marathon in NotThatGreat Britain™ uses . . . several different AerobicPowerModels (APM™) to create the starting list.

It turns out that many empirical and descriptive models have been proposed since the beginning of the 20th century.

I decided that it would be interesting if the power-law (Kennelly) and logarithmic (Péronnet-Thibault) models were compared with asymptotic models such as 2-parameter hyperbolic models (Hill and Scherrer), 3-parameter hyperbolic model (Morton), and exponential model (Hopkins).

These empirical models were compared from the performance of 6 elite endurance runners (P. Nurmi, E. Zatopek, J. Väätäinen, L. Virén, S. Aouita, and H. Gebrselassie) who were world-record holders and/or Olympic winners and/or world or European champions.

The parameters of these models were compared and correlated. The less accurate models were the asymptotic 2-parameter hyperbolic models but the most accurate model was the asymptotic 3-parameter hyperbolic model proposed by Morton.

The predictions of long-distance performances (maximal running speeds for 30 and 60 min and marathon) by extrapolation of the Logarithmic™ and AerobicPowerLaw™ Models were more accurate than the predictions by extrapolation in all the Asymptotic™ Models.

It turns out that he overestimations of these long-distance performances by Morton's model were less important than the overestimations by the other asymptotic models.

The Physiological™ Model proposed by Péronnet and Thibault [7] included the inertia, power, and capacity of the anaerobic and aerobic metabolisms.

Empirical and descriptive models have also been proposed since the beginning of the 20th century and presented in many reviews. Empirical models are derived by observation and experimentation rather than by theoretical considerations.

The empirical models are less complex than the biomechanical and physiological models but it turns out that they are also less explicative

The most famous empirical models corresponded to a power-law model (Kennelly, 1906), asymptotic hyperbolic models (Hill, 1927; Scherrer, 1954), and, more recently, a logarithmic model (Péronnet and Thibault, 1987) and . . . 3-parameter Asymptotic Models (AM™) (Hopkins, 1989; Morton, 1996).

It turns out that the asymptotic models correspond to horizontal asymptote equations:

1) The functions approach a horizontal line when tlimit . . . extends out to infinity.

In these models, it is assumed that the speeds lower than these asymptotes . . . can be maintained infinitely. . . which is . . .
