How is this not getting more attention? Danae Rivers of Penn State broke the collegiate 1k record by 2 seconds! Her time of 2:38.58 broke the old record of 2:40.79.
Video on flotrack shows her closing in 61 seconds, with a 30 second last lap. Absolutely insane!
For comparison, Klosterhalfen ran 2:43.07 this weekend.
I dont know why 2:38 sounds soft to me. An off the cuff guess would be that is equivalent to about a 2:02 800m? So fast, but surprising for a collegiate record.

Yeah I’m not surprised it’s not getting a lot of attention either. That’s really good for this early and second pace was 2:42.....from an NAIA runner. NAIA national record, but US #1 and 2, and she is #4 in the world. NAIA represent
At first I thought those other women were rabbits. Anna Shields is a beast at the NAIA level with that 2:42 (2:04 PR).
RIvers' PRs are 4:10 and 2:03, so she is starting out the year where she left off last.
Darn, that was impressive. Negative split. She will probably break 2 minutes in the 800.
she's from the same high school as Cas Loxsom.
